N.Y.P.D.SAFETY ALERT

PROTECT YOURSELF FROM SEXUAL ASSAULT

Recently, the 72nd precinct has experienced an increase in sexually motivated attacks on women in the Greenwood Heights, Windsor Terrace and Sunset Park neighborhoods. These incidents have occurred between 8:30pm and 4:00am.

In each incident the victim was a female between 21 and 32years of age.The perpetrator is described as a male Hispanic, medium build, between 20 and 28 years old. In each incident the victim was accosted either on the street or in the vestibule of her residence as she entered.

Measures you can take to protect yourself from falling victim to a sexual assault:

1.Always be aware of your surroundings.
2.Whenever possible avoid walking alone at night.
3.If you must use an iPod, keep volume down low enough so you can hear your surroundings.
4.Walk closer to the curb to avoid passing close to dark doorways and other places of concealment.
5.Avoid talking to strangers.
6.Choose brightly lit streets over streets that are dim.
7.Have the key to your residence ready in your hand as you approach your door.
8.If you feel you are being followed, retreat to a store or other public area and call 911.
9.Trust your instincts. If you feel uncomfortable about a location or a person, leave immediately.
10.Always know your location. If you call 911, the operator must know the exact location of the emergency.
