 The Circus is Tutu Cruel

Cynthia King Dance Studio is hosting a fabulous, fun, and free
Poster Party
on
Tuesday, February 17th, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
 for children and adults.
They'll be painting posters and dancing in costumes
as they prepare for their annual
 Rally for the Animals.

Cynthia King Dance Studio
21 Snyder Avenue
between Church Avenue and Albemarle Road

Through artistic expression, children will be given the opportunity
to put their innate sense of social responsibility into action.

To people who attended the circus as a childhood tradition,
the words "circus" and "suffering" may not go together,
but the lives of circus animals are filled with misery and abuse.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus
has a well-documented history of using inhumane training methods
and has been charged with dozens of
violations of the Animal Welfare Actby the USDA.

Cynthia King Dance Studio is encouraging all of its neighbors to
stand against this cruelty to animals and to not attend the circus.

Instead, join them to Rally for the Animals!

DOT'S PROPOSALS THROUGH THE EYES OF COMMUNITY BOARD 7

Site plan for PS/IS 437 at 701 Caton Avenue

Community Board 7 summarized what transpired at the January 8th meeting between the Windsor Terrace and Kensington communities and the Department of Transportation.
"On January 8, Councilman Brad Lander and Community Board 7 sponsored a meeting at PS 130 to discuss the Department of Transportation's plans to improve safety on Caton Avenue and surrounding streets. This corridor is a truck route and will soon be home to PS/IS 437, located between East 7th and East 8th Streets, which is scheduled to open in September, 2015.

The Community Board and Councilman have called on the Department of Transportation to conduct a safety study for Caton Avenue between McDonald Avenue and Coney Island Avenue. The study was made even more urgent by a recent pedestrian fatality on East 7th Street and Caton Avenue. The Community Board has long called for more school crossing guards on this dangerous street.

The Department of Transportation's plan includes reducing traffic lanes, adding turning bays, pedestrian islands, lower school speed limits, curb extensions, high visibility crosswalks and retiming lights. DOT's plan can be reviewed at this link.

Community Board 7 has also called for speeding up pedestrian countdown clocks on Caton Avenue and a safety study for McDonald Avenue, as well as more school crossing guards, district-wide.  Community Board 7's Transportation Committee also expects to review DOT's Truck Route study in the near future."

TRAFFIC STUDY UPDATE AT TONIGHT'S COMMUNITY BOARD 7 MEETING (FREE)

Community Board 7 Monthly Meeting
Tonight
Wednesday, January 21st, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Community Board 7's Vision Zero Task Force will report to the public at this month's board meeting. This report will be welcome, in light of the death of pedestrian Mohammad Naiem Uddin, continued collisions, and more near misses within the district's boundaries.

A heightened awareness of hazardous traffic conditions in the area has led concerned members of the community to form two grassroots groups, Windsor Terrace Safe Streets and KWT Safe Streets.

As you'll see on the proposed agenda below, residents who attend board meetings are given two opportunities for public comment. Don't be shy!

The proposed agenda:

1. The Pledge of Allegiance
2. Opening of the meeting
3. Adoption of the agenda
4. Adoption of the Minutes of the Board Meeting on December 17, 2014
