TOY DRIVE AT ELK CAFE

Bring new, unwrapped, pocket-size toys to Elk Cafe, to be donated to unhoused people. The toy drive will run through Saturday, December 23rd.
 
The toy drive is sponsored by Xavier Mission, a secular and independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

FREE GRAPHIC NOVEL WORKSHOP (MARCH 8TH)



Graphic Novel Workshop
Tuesday, March 8th, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The award-winning author of The Only Living Boy, neighborhood resident David Gallaher will be presenting a free graphic novel workshop open to parents and children of all ages. Learn about how great teamwork helps makes for great comics.
 
The workshop will be followed by a Q&A and a signing. Books will be available for purchase on site.


In addition, there will be a beer and wine happy hour.

SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO ELK CAFE

Meet Santa Claus
Saturday, December 12th, noon to 2:00 p.m.
Sunday, December 13th, noon to 2:00 p.m.

Santa is going to take time out of his already-busy schedule to come to Brooklyn this weekend. Meet him in Elk Cafe's backyard on Saturday, Sunday, or both. Santa specified that he wants you to bring your wish list with you.

During your visit with Santa, the North Pole’s official elf photographer will take your family’s photo with Santa and e-mail you a high-resolution professional photograph. There will be holiday treats for all. And you'll get 20% off any purchase you make at Elk while you’re there visiting Mr. Claus. 

The cost for the event is $20 per family.

BEER AND WINE GARDEN PARTY


Beer and Wine Garden Party
Saturday, September 26th, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Celebrate ELK's acquisition of a beer and wine license with a garden party in their backyard. A live jazz trio will feature Kensington neighbor Jamie Reynolds.

Jamie is a jazz pianist and composer who performs regularly with his trio in the top jazz clubs in New York City. He has released two records, "Time with People" and "Counterpart," and he is on the faculty of the 92nd Street Y School of Music. 


Admission to the party is free and open to all. ELK will be having a special happy hour--$5 beers and $6 wines all evening. If you're going to want to eat, you're welcome to bring food with you.

FIRST SING-ALONG AT ELK CAFE TOMORROW


Sing-along with Lucy Kalantari
Thursday, February 5th, 4:00 p.m.

Singer and ukulele player Lucy Kalantari will lead a sing-along for children in front of a cozy fire -- and hot chocolate will be served. The cost is $5 per family.

GRAND OPENING OF NEW CAFE TOMORROW


A new cafe will open in Windsor Terrace tomorrow (Friday, January 23rd) on the site formerly occupied by Juice Pedaler and, before that, Lonelyville Coffee.

Elk's menu will feature sandwiches made exclusively for them by Brancaccio's Food Shop, coffee from Stumptown Coffee Roasters, pastries from Park Slope's Colson Patisserie, and sweets from Ovenly and Magpies Bake Shop.


Breakfast and lunch options will include sandwiches, bagels, scones, tea bread, cookies, doughnuts, and much more.

The family-friendly café will host activities for children in its back garden. But until the weather allows that, they'll have story-times, songs, and hot chocolate indoors.

Elk's owner is Kari Browne, the owner of Lark Cafe in Ditmas Park.


Sandwich menu
  • smoked salmon, red onion, capers, and spicy mascarpone  $9
  • marinated flat iron steak with sweet onions  $9
  • ham and fontina cheese with gherkins and grain mustard  $8.50
  • roasted eggplant, mozzarella, and pesto  $8.50
  • grilled cheese  $7

Elk's open hours tomorrow are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
