Sunday, August 28th, noon to 4:00 p.m.

Fought on August 27, 1776, across Brooklyn--including on land that is now part of Green-Wood Cemetery--the Battle of Brooklyn was the first battle of the American Revolution to be waged after the Declaration of Independence was signed. In terms of the total number of British and American troops poised and ready to fight, this was the largest battle of the Revolution.

Schedule of events
  • noon to 1:30 p.m.: Living history programming on Green-Wood’s meadow includes drills, weapons demonstrations, and re-enactors from Continental Line regiments as well as historic figures.
  • 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.: The Battle of Brooklyn Parade will travel from Green-Wood’s Main Gate to Battle Hill, with The Regimental Band of the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Along the parade route will be nearly 100 replicas of Revolutionary War flags, which attendees are invited to carry to Battle Hill.
  • 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.: The Battle of Brooklyn Commemoration Ceremony atop Battle Hill--the highest natural point in Brooklyn, with views of the Statue of Liberty, New York Harbor and the Manhattan skyline--will end a day honoring the heroes of the battle.

Register for the free events at http://www.green-wood.com/event/the-240th-commemoration-of-the-battle-of-brooklyn/.

The commemorative events will take place rain or shine.

LOCAL PRECINCT OFFICERS WILL MEET WITH WINDSOR TERRACE RESIDENTS (FREE)

The 72nd Precinct has announced the time and location of a meeting between Windsor Terrace residents and the newly-established Neighborhood Coordination Officers (NCO) in Windsor Terrace's sector of the precinct.

The two NCOs, Police Officers Daniel McGrath and Wilfredo Montes, are interested in learning about the concerns of the particular part of the precinct that they now serve.

A few months ago, as part of a new policing model ("community policing"), the precinct was divided into four sectors. Prior to this, it had been divided into eight. Additional officers have been assigned to the precinct.

Windsor Terrace is in Sector A. An article in Brooklyn Reporter explains the significance of this new way of policing.

The meeting will be held on Saturday, July 23rd, at 10:30 a.m., in Good Shepherd Hall at Holy Name Church, 245 Prospect Park West (Prospect Park West at Prospect Avenue). The entrance to the hall is at the rear of the church.

The meeting is open to the public; everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
