Park Slope Windsor Terrace Artists is a collective of visual artists living and working in Park Slope and Windsor Terrace.

 

Their free annual Spring Open Studios event will be held on Saturday, June 6th, from noon to 6:00 p.m., and Sunday, June 7th, from noon to 6:00 p.m.

 

See sculpture, ceramics, paintings, collage, photography, mixed media, and fiber art in nineteen artists' studios. The work of sixteen additional artists will be featured in local businesses around Park Slope and Windsor Terrace and in two mobile U-Haul galleries.

KWT Up!Rising, an action group in Kensington/Windsor Terrace, has been creating trauma-responsive care packages for children who are directly impacted by ICE's abductions of their family members.

KWT Up!Rising has now organized a special family event that will allow children to participate in anti-ICE work. Tables will be set up with art activities and a variety of ways for children to contribute meaningfully.

What happens to materials donated?

Clothing & Textiles are accepted by Wearable Collections staff and taken to a facility where they are sorted into different grades, with an effort to recover as much usable clothing as possible for distribution to second-hand markets. Material that is not suitable for reuse will go to recycling markets to be used as wiping rags or shredded for low grade fiber products such as insulation.

 

What Wearable Collections Accepts:

A little more about Prospect Park Yoga: 

After teaching yoga in NYC for over 12-years, three observations led me to launch PPY:

• We all need more time outside, and New Yorkers need more reasons to inhabit public space. 
• The outdoor yoga classes in Prospect Park don't serve all of the neighborhoods surrounding the park - just the more affluent neighborhoods to the north  
• It is challenging for yoga teachers in NYC to earn a living wage.

Textile collection will return on Sunday, May 26th, at the Bartel-Pritchard Square Greenmarket, located at Prospect Park West at 15th Street.

On Sundays, the greenmarket is open from May 12th through December 22nd, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; textiles will be collected during those hours.

BURIAL RECORDS FOR GREEN-WOOD CEMETERY ARE ONLINE AND COMPLETELY SEARCHABLE FOR FREE

 

Detailed burial records for the more than 426,000 people who were interred in Green-Wood Cemetery between 1840 and 1937 are remotely searchable for free through the cemetery's new Burial and Vital Records database.

The records contain interment date, name, burial location (lot number and grave number), place of birth (city and state or country), age at death (in years, months, and days), whether married or single, last place of residence (city, state,street address), place of death (city, state), date of death, cause of death, name of the undertaker, and remarks (if any).

 

The public can search the database by name, lot, place of birth, cause of death, undertaker, etc. The Search Guide provides instructions for various search methods and for refining a search to come up with more focused results.

 

Information in the database is from Green-Wood's Burial Registry of sixty handwritten chronologically-arranged ledgers. To search basic information on interments for other years, use Green-Wood's Burial Search. More than 570,000 people are buried in the cemetery.
