Detailed burial records for the more than 426,000 people who were interred in Green-Wood Cemetery between 1840 and 1937 are remotely searchable for free through the cemetery's new Burial and Vital Records database.
The records contain interment date, name, burial location (lot number and grave number), place of birth (city and state or country), age at death (in years, months, and days), whether married or single, last place of residence (city, state,street address), place of death (city, state), date of death, cause of death, name of the undertaker, and remarks (if any).
The public can search the database by name, lot, place of
birth, cause of death, undertaker, etc. The Search Guide provides instructions for various search methods and for refining a search to come up with more focused results.
Information in the database is from Green-Wood's Burial Registry of sixty handwritten chronologically-arranged ledgers. To search basic information on interments for other years, use Green-Wood's Burial Search. More than 570,000 people are buried in the cemetery.
