The entertainment lineup for GreenWoodstock 2017 has been announced. It features

• The Erstwhiles (11 a.m.),
• Brooklyn Bass Daddy with John Montagna (noon),
• Debbie Deane (1 p.m.),
• The Cynthia King Dancers (2 p.m.),
• Deidre Rodman Struck (3 p.m.), and
• The Lonesome Sea with Jennifer Milich (4 p.m.).

GreenWoodstock, Greenwood Playground's free annual outdoor festival, is now in its eighth year of offering Crafts, Bargains, and Music. The combination community marketplace and live music festival includes vendors, local musicians, singers, and dancers.

Vendors sell flea market and stoop sale items, handmade crafts, and artisanal items. The cost of a space is $40; a table and two chairs costs an additional $20. Food vending is not permitted. For information and to register, send an e-mail to dari.litchman @ gmail.com.

The festival is presented annually by Friends of Greenwood Playground (FoGP), with all proceeds benefiting the playground.

The GreenWoodstock outdoor festival returns to Greenwood Playground for its eighth year of Peace, Love, and Music (and Crafts and Bargains). The combination community marketplace and live music festival features local musicians, singers, dancers, and artisans.

Vendors sell flea market items, stoop sale items, and handmade crafts and artisanal items. The cost of a space is $40; a table and two chairs costs an additional $20. Food vendors aren't permitted.

GreenWoodstock is a benefit for Greenwood Playground. All money raised goes towards events for the community.

In case of inclement weather on June 4th, the rain date will be the following Sunday, June 11th.

FALL FESTIVAL AT GREENWOOD PLAYGROUND

Harvest Hootenanny

Sunday, October 23rd, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Friends of Greenwood Playground will host their annual HOOT (Harvest Hootenanny) at Greenwood Playground. The event will feature

• face painting,
• pumpkin painting,
• glitter tattoos,
• science demonstrations by Kiddie Science,
• arts and crafts with Barking Cat Studio,
• a bake sale,
• a raffle,
• live music,
• storytelling, and
• a costume parade.

 The costume parade at 2:45 p.m. is open to all, and everyone is welcome to wear a costume.

Debbie Deane, Lucy Kalantari, and Brooklyn Bass Daddy, starring John Montagna, will provide live music throughout the day.

Robin Bady will be telling stories at various times throughout the day.

Neighborhood businesses will donate prizes for the raffle, including Juice Box, Della, Handy Matt Construction, Haircare by Yolanda, Butterfunk Kitchen, Brooklyn Commune, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Windsor Shoes, Hamilton's, The Adirondack, Little Tonino's, Steeplechase, Explore Movement, Barking Cat, Buffalo's Famous, and Foodtown.

A donation of $5 per family is suggested. Proceeds from the event will help fund free programs at the playground throughout next summer.

Friends of Greenwood Playground supports the New York Cares Coat Drive. Bring new and gently-used coats for adults and children. New York Cares says

The Coat Drive is a city-wide effort run by New York Cares which aims to collect 125,000 coats each year and distribute them to New Yorkers who need them most in the colder months.

The Coat Drive has been running for 27 years and counting, having collected and distributed 1.7 million winter coats to-date, thanks to generous New Yorkers.

PUPPET SHOW FREE: PUSS IN BOOTS

Puss in Boots: A Free Puppet Show

Tuesday, September 27th, 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Cityparks Puppetmobile will present a free performance of "Puss in Boots" at Greenwood Playground at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27th.

The traveling show of professional puppeteers will offer

the classic Puss in Boots tale, with a twist.

Once upon a time there lived a young man named Ferguson Mundingle. Fergus has just the bare essentials in life – a roof over his head, the clothes on his back, and his ever faithful pet cat.

One day when lamenting his poor lifestyle, Fergus is astounded when his cat stands up, begins talking and introduces himself as Puss. Puss reveals to Fergus that he is very intelligent and well traveled, and even has an idea to help Fergus improve his situation.

With that in mind, Puss dons a snazzy pair of boots and sets off on an exciting magical journey. Despite his reputation as a sly trickster, Puss soon proves himself a caring friend to all, willing to help at any cost!

FREE WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP FOR ADULTS

                 Introduction to Watercolor Painting for Adults

Reserve a spot today for an Introduction to Watercolor Painting workshop for adults. It's free, and it's open to the public.

Private Picassos will hold the workshop tomorrow--Wednesday, August 10th--from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the chess tables in Greenwood Playground. The workshop is sponsored by Friends of Greenwood Playground.

Private Picassos provides custom art lessons and activities throughout the tri-state area and at its art studio in Park Slope.

KIDS' BOOK AND TOY SALE...AND A CONCERT

Friends of Greenwood Playground will present an all-ages concert with Brooklyn Bass Daddy this Saturday, July 23rd, at 11:00 a.m. The band plays family-friendly funk, pop, and soul.

In addition, a kids' book and toy sale will be going on from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. All of the items will be sold at a deep tag-sale discount.

The sale will benefit the great programming at the playground that has continued year after year, thanks to the efforts and dedication of neighborhood volunteers.

To donate to the sale, bring gently-used kids’ books and toys in good working order to Greenwood Playground, starting at 8:30 a.m. The toys must have all parts attached in a Ziploc baggie.

Friends of Greenwood Playground's (FoGP) annual Greenwoodstock festival returns for its seventh year of Peace, Love, Music, Crafts, and Bargains.

Greenwoodstock is an all-day combination of a community market and a live music festival that features local musicians, singers, dancers, and artisans.

TOYS AND BABY GEAR NEEDED; DONATE VIA FRIENDS OF GREENWOOD PLAYGROUND

Toy and Gear Drive

Saturday, December 19th, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

This is the third year that Friends of Greenwood Playground is supporting the organization Little Essentials. The Friends will be collecting new and gently-used unwrapped toys for girls and boys of any age as well as baby gear on behalf of Little Essentials. Drop the items off at Sun Dojo on Saturday, December 19th.

Toys must be clean, in working order, and include all parts. No large or ride-on toys; all toys must fit in a child's hand. Include batteries with anything that is battery-powered. Stuffed animals will not be accepted.

Baby gear that can be donated includes baby beds of any type--Pack 'n Play, bassinet, co-sleeper, travel cribs, and car seats.

Clothing will not be accepted.

Little Essentials serves children in Brooklyn who are living in poverty. It's helped more than 17,000 children since May 2011.

The organization enables, empowers, and educates families in need, allowing them to stay together by providing them with urgently needed essentials. The community-based 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization is located in Gowanus.

• 3:15: Halloween Parade, with prizes for Scariest, Sassiest, Best Homemade, Best Superhero, Most Creative, and Cutest.

CELEBRATE FALL WITH MUSIC AND MORE AT THE HARVEST HOOTENANNY

Harvest Hootenanny

Sunday, October 25th, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Harvest Hootenanny, the 9th annual celebration of fall at Greenwood Playground, will welcome the season with music, dance, arts and crafts, and the 3rd Annual Halloween Parade, with prizes in several costume categories.

Friends of Greenwood Playground (FOGP) have arranged a solid block of entertainment, including the Cynthia King Dancers, musicians John Montagna and Brooklyn Bass Daddy, Debbie Deane, and Jennifer Milich, and storyteller Robin Bady. The entertainment schedule will be announced soon.

In addition, the festival will offer arts and crafts with Barking Cat Studio, face painting, pumpkin painting, glitter tattoos, a bake sale, and a raffle.

A donation of $5 per family is suggested.

Bring, if you can, canned food and non-perishable items to donate to the Food Bank for New York City. Go to their website to see what they need.

BRIER (AKA BR'ER) RABBIT WILL BE UP TO HIS OLD TRICKS AT GREENWOOD PLAYGROUND (FREE)

Swedish Marionettes Perform "Brier Rabbit"

Thursday, October 15th, 3:30 p.m.

Friends of Greenwood Playground (FOGP) presents the Swedish Marionettes in a free performance of "Brier Rabbit." The puppet show is suitable for all ages. Bring a towel or a blanket with you to sit on.

Weather conditions could prevent the performance from taking place, so check FOGP's Facebook page for up-to-the-minute announcements.

"Tales of Brier Rabbit" follows the adventures of notorious trickster Brier Rabbit, who is once again up to no good.

Deceiving and stealing from his fellow animal friends, Brier Rabbit thinks he's much too clever to ever get caught. However, in this modern adaptation of the American folk tale, Brier Rabbit's pals are on to his tricks, and set out to teach him a lesson he won't soon forget!

The event features all-day entertainment, handmade goods, stoop sale items, and representatives from community organizations. Everywhere there will be song and celebration.

A vendor space (10' x 10') costs $30. A table and two chairs, if you need them, cost another $20. Proceeds go into Greenwood Playground's programming fund. Set-up can begin as early as 7:00 a.m.

Friends of Greenwood Playground (FoGP) will hold its 6th annual "Greenwoodstock" on Sunday, May 3rd. It's a community market and live music festival with local performers and artisans.

FoGP is looking for vendors to sell stoop sale items and handmade craft items (no food vendors). Registration will open soon, so if you're interested in participating, send an e-mail to greenwoodplayground @ gmail.com.

HOLIDAY DRIVE TO BENEFIT CHILDREN IN NEED

KWT Holiday Drive for Little Essentials 

Sunday, December 14th, 9:00 a.m. to noon

Cynthia King Dance Studio will again be the collection point for children's items donated to Little Essentials. Babies and toddlers up to age 4 are in need of this helping hand.

Little Essentials is a community-based 501(c)(3) organization that enables, empowers and educates families in need.

Friends of Greenwood Playground explains

Little Essentials provides mothers living in shelters with essential items. Most importantly, it is against the law for moms to sleep in bed with their babies, so these moms need to have a place for their babies to sleep otherwise they cannot stay in the shelters. The shelters are very much in need of pack n plays, moses baskets, co-sleepers, any place where a baby can sleep other than in a grown up bed. The baby beds need to be portable so we cannot accept cribs. We are accepting gently used and new items.

On another note, by law hospitals will not allow newborn babies to leave without a car seat. Infant car seats are needed so that moms can take their babies home. In situations where moms do not have car seats, the hospitals (by law) have to call child protective services to intervene, possibly setting up a situation where a baby and mother are separated. Little Essentials tells me they get calls from hospitals (a lot) requesting a car seat to avoid this situation! We are accepting gently used and new infant car seats and strollers.

PAINTING FACES AND PUMPKINS

Harvest Hootenanny

The annual HOOT (Harvest Hootenanny) in Greenwood Playground will offer a dazzling array of dance performances by Cynthia King Dance Studio, spooky storytelling, arts and crafts with Barking Cat Studio, a Halloween parade, glitter tattoos, face painting, pumpkin painting, balloon twisting by Mike Gold the Ballooniac, raffle prizes, and more.

A $5 donation is suggested and would be appreciated. The money will be used for future programs from Friends of Greenwood Playground.

Canned food and other non-perishable items can be brought to the Hoot to be donated to The Food Bank for New York City. 

Friends of Greenwood Playground would love to have help with putting the Hoot together. These parents donate their time and energy to making Kensington and Windsor Terrace even better neighborhoods for families to live. Anyone who can help out can e-mail them at greenwoodplayground @ gmail.com.
