Halloween Costume Parties

Saturday, October 29th, 10:00 p.m.

Monday, October 31st, 9:00 p.m.

DJ GoGo Gadget will serve as maestro of ceremonies at two Halloween costume parties at Sycamore Bar. 

The first party starts at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29th, with a costume contest at midnight. The second one begins at 9:00 p.m. on Monday, October 31st, and the costume contest is at 11:00 p.m.

The winner of each costume contest will get a $50 bar tab. 

Tricks and treats will be available as well as giveaways of free swag.

Sycamore is open to ages 21 and up. ID is required. 

Admission is free.

                   Sunday, November 17th, 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
 
Sycamore Bar and Blue Point Brewing and Jameson kick off their Winter Coat Drive on Sunday, November 17th, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Bring new and gently-used coats for children, women, and men in all sizes, colors, and styles.

Get free pizza, $5 Syc Strength Frozen Margaritas, and a free Jameson shot for every new and gently-used coat donated. 

In cooperation with the New York Cares annual coat drive, Sycamore Bar will collect coats during all of its business hours from Sunday, November 17th, through Sunday, December 1st.

The hours of operation are

• Monday through Thursday, 3:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
• Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.
• Saturday, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.
• Sunday, 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

After 5:00 p.m., nobody under the age of twenty-one is permitted in the bar. Children must be supervised at all times.

From New York Cares:

For the last 31 years, we have channeled the generosity of our city into our annual Coat Drive. Last year we distributed our two millionth coat, and this year our goal is to collect 100,000 new or gently used coats for our Community Partners, which include social service agencies, public schools, and transitional housing shelters.

DONATE COATS FOR NEW YORKERS IN NEED

Coat Drive

Saturday, December 1st, to Wednesday, December 12th

Donated coats keep more than 100,000 New Yorkers warm every winter. Bring a coat (or coats) to Sycamore Bar + Flowershop from Saturday, December 1st, to Wednesday, December 12th, where they'll accept new or gently-used coats for adults and children in all styles, colors, and sizes.

When you bring in a coat (or coats), you'll get a free shot, with a choice of whiskey, tequila, vodka, gin, or rum well shot.

Sycamore is a participant in the 30th annual New York Cares Coat Drive. Last year, New York Cares distributed 109,000 coats to families who needed them. This year, they'd like to donate even more.

If you aren't able to get to Sycamore or if you don't have a coat to donate, you can still help put coats on needy New Yorkers. Through Monday, December 31st, a donation of $20 will purchase a new coat. To donate, text COAT to 41444 or give online.

The bar was shut down for forty-eight hours, following Monday's inspection by the Department of Health.

The findings of the June 26th inspection that led to the closure were posted today on the Restaurant Grades page on the Department of Health website.

After inspecting Sycamore Flower Shop and Bar yesterday (Monday), the Department of Health shut the bar down at 5:00  p.m., as explained in Sycamore's Facebook post above.

The bar's post states that "The crux of the closure pertains to our dual business model. The coexistence of the flower shop and bar is suddenly a little too cozy in the eyes of the great city of New York."

The findings of yesterday's inspection haven't yet been posted on the Restaurant Grades page on the Department of Health website. The results of the January inspection are still posted there. Sycamore received fifteen violation points and a grade of B.

The Sanitary Violations in January were

1) Evidence of mice or live mice present in facility's food and/or non-food areas. (Critical)
2) Food contact surface not properly washed, rinsed and sanitized after each use and following any activity when contamination may have occurred. (Critical)
3) Facility not vermin proof. Harborage or conditions conducive to attracting vermin to the premises and/or allowing vermin to exist. (Non-critical)

DITMAS LIT IS TONIGHT

Ditmas Lit is a reading series and a literary party. Poets, fiction writers, essayists, and storytellers--most of them local--read their work in The Lodge at Sycamore Bar. Tonight's readers will be Evan James, Rebecca Schiff, Lisa Marie Basile, and Miracle Jones. 

El Super will serve their LA-inspired Mexican fare of tacos and tamales.

The co-founders and co-hosts of Ditmas Lit are Rachel Lyon, a writer of fiction and creative nonfiction, a teacher, and a copy writer, and Sarah Bridgins, a poet and essayist.

The next and final event in the series will be held on Tuesday, March 21st, from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Drop the Mike: Stand-up Comedy

Sycamore Bar's "Drop the Mike" comedy night is an all-female (plus one male) stand-up comedy series. "Drop the Mike" is presented every second Wednesday of the month and is hosted by Kendra Cunningham.

Tomorrow's lineup will feature Lillian DeVane (Boston Comedy Festival), Vicky Kuperman (Women in Comedy Festival), Eman Ek Husseini (Montreal Just for Laughs), and Gabe Morales (Comedy Central).

Food from Trini Pastelles will be served in the garden.

A note about Trini Pastelles: Their artisanal-style pastelles, a popular food on the islands of Trinidad and Tobago, are hand-crafted, freshly made, gluten-free, and preservative-free. The pastelles are made from stewed, ground, pasture-raised meats wrapped in a corn flour fold and steamed in banana leaves.
