WHY BUNDLE UP OR STAY INDOORS? BECAUSE THE TEMPERATURE WILL DROP TO NINE DEGREES!

NYC Emergency Management Commissioner Joseph Esposito
gives advice about how to stay warm.

Current temperature: It's now 21 degrees and windy. But it feels like it's 11 degrees. Tonight, it'll be 18 degrees and windy. The low temperatures and windiness will continue into tomorrow and the next day.

Tomorrow, we'll have a high of 26 degrees and it'll be windy--20 to 30 miles per hour, gusting to more than 40. At night, it'll only be 10 degrees, with a wind chill value between zero and -15 degrees.

Thursday, we'll have a high of 25 and it'll again be windy.

The National Weather Service Windchill Chart calculates what the air temperature feels like based on actual temperature and wind combinations.

So, you've got to protect yourself. Stay indoors if you can. But if you have to go out, don't wear one big, heavy layer of clothing; dress in multiple layers to stay warmer.

Check on your neighbors who might need help.

Report the loss of heat or hot water to your property manager (if you have one) and to 311.

Don't use a gas stove to heat your home.

Don't use a kerosene or propane space heater, a charcoal or gas grill, or a generator indoors or near your home.
