Quesos Mexico gets kudos in this week's "Fork in the Road" column in The Village Voice for its Queso Hebra/Oaxaca Style cheese.
Robert Sietsma describes it as "Porcelain-white Oaxacan cheese -- used all over Mexico, and indispensable to such signature recipes as chile relleno and queso fundido." He says that "Queso Oaxaca or Quesillio Oaxaca is one of Mexico's most respected and utilitarian cheeses, a cousin of mozzarella that's pulled into thick ropes and then braided into a ball."
While it can cost up to $10 for a 14-ounce ball, Quesos Mexico sells that amount for only $4.
Quesos Mexico, a family-run business that's been in the neighborhood for more than ten years, is open every day from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
