72ND PRECINCT'S NATIONAL NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME

The 72nd Precinct Community Council is holding its annual National Night Out Against Crime on Tuesday, August 7th, starting at 4:00 p.m., in Greenwood Playground. The playground is on E. 5th Street, between Fort Hamilton Parkway and Greenwood Avenue.

Featuring
  • live music and DJ
  • free food and drinks
  • crime prevention
  • fire safety
  • local business food tastings
  • FBI and EMS lectures

The goals of the 29th National Night Out are to
  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

National Night Out was introduced in 1984 by National Association of Town Watch, which was founded in 1981.

Many people, as an alternative, participate in National Night Out by turning on their porch lights, sitting outside for the evening, and chatting with their neighbors. This grassroots tradition dates back to the early 1970s.
