GOLDEN FARM EMPLOYEE PASSES AWAY

Sent to us by Eleanor, an active supporter of Golden Farm employees:
Dear Neighbors,

Felix, one of the long standing Golden Farm workers who played a leading role in the organizing drive there, died of cancer last Thursday.

Felix was the major earner for his family. He went on working long after he became ill because he needed the money and left the search for medical care too late because he had no health coverage.

His family in Mexico have had to turn to the Mexican consulate in New York to get his body flown home as they do not have the money to pay for it themselves.

Mr. Kim's lawyers have reached a tentative agreement with the Golden Farm workers for a settlement on the back wages that they all, including Felix, are owed. A figure has been agreed on, but paperwork has not been finalized. The workers asked Mr Kim if he would provide an advance on Felix's portion, but he has refused. He has however let them put a collection tin for Felix's family at the checkouts.

There is a service at the Ortiz Funeral Home on 52 St and 4th Ave, today (Tuesday) from 4-9.

Two of Felix's brothers also work at Golden Farm, and all of the stock workers were close friends with him. I know that they all would greatly appreciate any support or condolences from the community at this time.

Eleanor

Rest in peace, Felix. Our condolences to his family and friends.
