Once again, the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for New York City. This one is for Wednesday, July 4th, from noon to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, July 5th (time unspecified). The heat index is expected to be at least 95 degrees on those two days, so air-conditioned cooling centers in all of the boroughs will be open.
See the New York City Office of Emergency Management's website for information about the symptoms of heat illness and which people are at risk for it, tips for beating the heat, spray caps and fire hydrants, and how to conserve energy (the electrical kind).
Search by address or intersection to find the locations of cooling centers. At the moment, Windsor Terrace Library and Kensington Library are not listed. The Cooling Center Finder will be updated Wednesday morning (tomorrow) at 6:00 a.m.
The good news is that tomorrow's Air Quality Index for New York City is "moderate," That's a step below "good" and a step above "unhealthy for sensitive groups."
Stay cool, and beat the heat.
