Compost for Brooklyn is an active and flourishing "community composting project and native plant garden in Kensington, Brooklyn." It thrives where a vacant lot used to be at E. 8th Street and Newkirk Avenue (map).
Three spring events are planned at Compost for Brooklyn:
Street Tree Care and Compost Workday
Saturday, April 9th, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Join Compost for Brooklyn and TimeBanksNYC
to care for neighborhood street trees and turn compost heaps.
Aerate the soil, spread compost, paint signs.

Garden Club
Sunday, May 15th, noon to 4:00 p.m.
Turn the compost and tend to the garden.
Block Party
Sunday, June 5th, noon to 5:00 p.m.
Free workshops, live music, and raffle prizes.

- Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
- Sundays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
As of April 11th:
- Thursdays from 5:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m.
- Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to noon
- Sundays from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
