La Leche League International (LLLI) is a mother-to-mother breastfeeding support group that's open to all. Mothers
who are breastfeeding, women who are pregnant and are interested in
breastfeeding, and babies and children are welcome to attend meetings.
Founded
in Illinois in 1956 by seven mothers, LLLI
is now in sixty-eight countries. The mission of the non-profit, non-sectarian organization is "to help mothers
worldwide to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support,
encouragement, information, and education, and to promote a better
understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy
development of the baby and mother."
