A police truck pulled up. Many officers climbed out, most armed with machine guns. A passerby watching the activity was quickly surrounded by six officers and escorted off the block. A resident who witnessed the scene from indoors saw the police remove someone from a house. This occurred on E. 3rd Street, between Church Avenue and Albemarle Road, on the afternoon of Monday, January 30th.
Drug dealer? Gang member? Domestic abuser? Burglar? Murderer?
Three nights later, on Thursday, February 2nd, another resident was walking on McDonald Avenue past Albemarle Road and saw a lot of police activity. An officer on the sidewalk was carrying a huge hand gun, much bigger than the gun that fits into a police holster.
It makes you wonder who's living here and what they're doing.
As our readers know, we post the felony crime reports that are sent by the PIMS (Pattern Identification Module Section) unit of the 66th Precinct. The report that covers Monday, January 30th, and Thursday, February 2nd, is posted here. The two incidents described above aren't included.
A while back, I asked the 66th why some felony crimes aren't included in the crime reports. I had in mind crimes that friends had told me about or that I'd read about on a neighborhood e-mail list. The precinct told me that crimes under investigation aren't included in the reports.
Another possible explanation in these two instances is that the police activity resulted from investigations of earlier crimes and would, therefore, not appear in that week's crime report.
