TENANT IS SENTENCED FOR KILLING HIS LANDLORD WITH A SWORD

Press Release from the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office

Kensington Man Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison
For Fatally Stabbing Landlord with Sword

Apprehended in Airport before Boarding Flight to his Native Bangladesh

Acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez today announced that a 31-year-old Brooklyn man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for fatally stabbing his landlord with a samurai sword during a dispute inside a basement he was leasing from the victim.

Acting District Attorney Gonzalez said, “This defendant caused a tragic and completely senseless death, taking the life of a beloved businessman and a father of three. He will now serve a very long prison sentence for his brutal and violent conduct.”

The Acting District Attorney identified the defendant as Rasel Siddiquee, 31 of Kensington, Brooklyn. He was sentenced today by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Neil Firetog to 25 years in prison and five years’ post-release supervision following his guilty plea earlier this month to first-degree manslaughter.

The Acting District Attorney said that, according to the evidence, on January 6, 2014 the defendant was inside a basement apartment at 546 McDonald Avenue in Kensington, which he was renting from the victim, Mahiuddin Mahmud.

The defendant, who was holding a sword, became angry at the victim over a pedicab license that was received in the mail. He struck the victim with the sword multiple times and continued to strike him in the throat after he fell to the ground, the evidence showed.

The defendant was apprehended on January 8, 2014 in Kennedy Airport after using his credit card to buy a flight ticket to Bangladesh.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Melissa Carvajal, Deputy Bureau Chief of the District Attorney’s Homicide Bureau, under the supervision of Assistant District Attorney Timothy Gough, Chief.

This scenario took place this morning (Thursday, August 24th) at about 8:00 a.m. on 36th Street, near 12th Avenue, on the Kensington/Borough Park border.

A surveillance video of the incident is posted on the Twitter page of Myles Miller, PIX 11 News.

Thirty-one years in prison plus five years of post-release supervision is Justin Farrow's sentence for the August 2015 armed robberies of women in Kensington and Windsor Terrace.

He was also found guilty on the charges of assault and possession of a weapon. He had hit one of his victims in the head and ear with his Beretta, a semi-automatic pistol.

He wasn't found guilty of a fifth charge of armed robbery.

MURDER OF CHILD-MURDERER'S BROTHER IN HIS HOME ON E. 2ND STREET

UPDATE, June 28, 2017: Despite initial reports about his death,
"The city’s Medical Examiner’s office has declared Tzvi (Jack) Aron’s bizarre death 'undetermined.' An undetermined classification means that the medical examiner has concluded the investigation and cannot rule with certainty after taking into account all the available information and any test results." (Daily News)
-------------------------------

Tzvi "Jack" Aron, who had been missing since Tuesday, was found dead in his family home in Kensington at around 2:45 p.m. on Friday. He was a brother of Levi Aron, who is in prison for kidnapping eight-year-old Leiby Kletzky in 2011 and murdering and dismembering him in that house.

Yerachmiel Aron found his twenty-nine-year-old brother Tzvi stuffed into a basement closet, duct-taped and wrapped in a blanket. Tzvi had lived in the basement.

The police pronounced him dead on the scene. His death has been classified as a homicide. Tzvi had reportedly told police that someone had threatened him last month.

The Aron house is located at 466 E. 2nd Street in Kensington, between Avenue C and Cortelyou Road.

THIEF STEALING PACKAGES IN WINDSOR TERRACE AND KENSINGTON

The man in this photo has been stealing packages from buildings in Windsor Terrace and Kensington.

He's stolen them from several apartment buildings and private houses on Ocean Parkway, Prospect Park Southwest, Reeve Place, and Temple Court, and he's stolen as recently as last night.

Sometimes he rings doorbells in vestibules and lobbies until a resident buzzes him in. Sometimes he follows someone into a building. Sometimes he waits to enter until a guest or delivery person is exiting.

He brings reusable bags and a backpack with him. He fills them with packages he finds in lobbies, in mail rooms, by apartment doors, and on porches.

The thief appears to be white-skinned. He is approximately 5'8" tall, has a beard and mustache, has tattoos on both upper arms, and wears a cap that says CAVS on it (a blue Cleveland Cavaliers cap with orange lettering on it).
