HELP FROM BROOKLYN HOUSING & FAMILY SERVICES

Albemarle Neighborhood Association Meeting
Thursday, March 24th, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Representatives from Brooklyn Housing & Family Services will speak at the Albemarle Neighborhood Association (ANA) meeting on Thursday, March 24th. With a mission of "protecting families and preventing homelessness," Brooklyn Housing & Family Services has, for thirty-eight years, "focused its attention on housing change throughout Brooklyn — eliminating unfair, unsafe and inhuman housing – building by building."

Three years ago, Brooklyn Housing & Family Services established its "predatory lending/foreclosure prevention program to help residents find ways to modify the terms of their mortgages and retain their homes." The program "also offers assistance to families unable to retain their homes; helping them to relocate to affordable housing in their neighborhood avoiding homelessness and total family upheaval."

At the meeting, ANA's Nominating Committee will present its slate of candidates. Nominations will also be taken from the floor.

Refreshments provided by Foodtown and ANA will be available.

Admission  to the meeting is free, and it is open to everyone, whether or not you are a member of ANA.

Meeting location:
327 E. 5th Street, at the corner of Church Avenue (Enter through the wheelchair-accessible entrance at street level.)

AND HERE'S THE FLEA MARKET POSTER!

VENDORS: RESERVE A SPACE NOW AT THE GREENWOOD PLAYGROUND FLEA MARKET

Friends of Greenwood Playground (FoGP)
is now accepting applications from vendors
for its Second Annual Spring Flea Market.

Professional vendors, stoop-salers, and people selling or promoting services or promoting a business are welcome to participate.

The flea market provides a local place to browse, buy, and sell. In addition to great buys, family-oriented musical entertainment will be offered. Last year, a huge number of people attended the flea market.

Vendors will keep all of the profits from their sales. For only $30, vendors get a 10' x 10' space, and for an additional $18, a six-foot-long table and two folding chairs will be provided. All of the money that's raised will go to FoGP's general fund to benefit future programs in the playground.

Pre-registration is open through Monday, April 25th.

The number of spaces is limited, so please pre-register right away. Registration information is available on FoGP's website.

Groups that offer free community services or are trying to better the world can put educational material on the free "community tables." Please bring your own chair if you plan to sit at a community table. Many groups put their material on these tables last year, so if you'll need more space to display yours, bring a table and chairs with you. If enough spaces are available, you'll be given one for free. FoGP won't know if extra space is available until the day of the flea market. Community groups are encouraged to purchase a table to help fund programming at the playground.

Don't miss this wonderful community event!

Date: Saturday, May 7th, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a rain date of Sunday, May 8th.

Location: Greenwood Playground is located at the corner of Fort Hamilton Parkway and E. 5th Street in Windsor Terrace.

CHOOSING WINE FOR PASSOVER SEDERS

This year, Passover begins at sundown on Monday, April 18th, and ends at sundown on Tuesday, April 26th.

Gamliel Kronemer explains that
At one time the two-word phrase “kosher wine” was synonymous with the sweet, sacramental wines that were found in Jewish homes everywhere. Then in the late 1970s, a handful of wineries in Israel, Europe and California started producing minute quantities of quality kosher table wines, and so began the kosher wine revolution.
The Jewish Week has compiled lists of the top kosher wines for the seder:
  • Top White Wines $18 and over
  • Top White Wines
  • Top Wines $50 & over
  • Top Red Wines
  • Top White Wines under $18
  • Top Israeli Wines
  • Top Red Wines under $25
  • Top Red Wines $25 and over

Sean Casey Animal Rescue is asking people to
Buy a Shamrock for one of our Lovely Adoptables!

As a result of your generosity on Valentine's Day and the month of February, we raised $365 for the shelter (73 hearts!), and hope to beat that number with shamrocks for March!  This year for St. Patrick's Day, purchase a shamrock for one of our SCAR adoptables, or a pet of your own! For $5, a shamrock will hang at the shelter with the animal of your choice's name on it. You can buy a shamrock for any type of animal, be it furry, feathered, or scaly!
To buy a shamrock (or a bunch of them), click on the "Buy a Shamrock for..." box on the rescue's Facebook page. Or stop off at the rescue!
