FOOD PANTRY OPEN TO ALL NEIGHBORS AT IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CHURCH
The food pantry at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church (IHM) serves its Windsor Terrace and Kensington neighbors who are in need.
FOOD PANTRY“To distribute food to those in need”The IHM Food Pantry provides non-perishable food and personal care items to families and senior citizens in our parish and local community. During the holiday season, families also receive clothing, toys, and gifts. Emergency distributions are available when a local family is in crisis. Our volunteers work together as a team to make sure the shelves are stocked, donations are picked up and brought to the food pantry, and ample bags are prepared and distributed to the recipients on a monthly basis. From time to time, people do struggle to meet their financial obligations, and as a Christian community we are charged to care for the poor, elderly, needy, disabled, and homebound.Donations are needed for distribution each month. Please place food donations in the baskets located in the side vestibules of the church. The Food Pantry is supported by the generosity of our parishioners. For an application, or to volunteer time at the pantry, please contact G. Cassone by calling the Rectory at (718) 871-1310 ext.10.
For additional information, contact the parish office, located in the rectory. It is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It is closed on holidays.

There you can donate perishable foods, such as dairy products, meat, eggs, home-cooked meals, fresh fruit, and fresh vegetables, or you can take food that you need.

PRE-THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE FOR NEIGHBORHOOD RESIDENTS TOMORROW
To replenish the food pantry at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in time for Thanksgiving, the church's Cub Scout Pack 187 will collect non-perishable food on Sunday, November 10th, from 8:00 a.m. to noon.
They'll collect the food in front of Foodtown, 382 McDonald Avenue at Albemarle Road, in Kensington, for the benefit of neighborhood residents in need.
Non-perishable foods have a long shelf life, with expiration dates far into the future. They can be safely stored at room temperature.
A few examples of non-perishable foods are canned fish, canned meat, canned and dried beans, nuts, peanut and other nut butters, jelly, honey, canned fruit, dried fruit, 100% fruit juice, bottled water, dry or shelf-stable milk, canned vegetables, crackers, uncooked rice, uncooked pasta, hot and cold cereals, granola, flour, dried herbs and spices, etc.
Healthy food options are best: whole grains, low fat, low or no sugar, low or no salt, and few or no chemical additives.
Recent statistics showed that almost 13% of New York City’s population suffer from food insecurity, meaning that they aren't able to afford an adequate supply of food.
Last year, in fact, 34% of the food pantries and kitchens in New York City didn't have enough resources to meet people's needs, so they had to turn people away, reduce portion sizes, and cut back on their open hours.

FOOD DONATIONS REQUESTED BY BROWNIES FOR A BROOKLYN FOOD PANTRY
Food Drive
Friday, November 18th, 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
CAMBA needs to keep its Beyond Hunger Emergency Food Pantry fully stocked because it feeds 4,300 hungry Brooklynites every month. IHM Brownie Troop #2662 will lend CAMBA a hand by collecting food to donate to the food pantry.
The Brownies will be stationed outside of Foodtown tomorrow (Friday), from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. They'll accept canned tuna, chicken, and salmon, dried milk, beans, fruit, vegetables, and pasta, cereal, peanut butter, and 100% fruit juice.
They can't accepted expired or dented cans.
From CAMBA's website:
CAMBA’s emergency food pantry operates on a client-choice/supermarket-style system, where clients choose individual food items rather than receiving pre-packed bags, as they would at traditional pantries.
The pantry distributes a three-day supply of nutritional food. This is critical for many of our clients who are unable to maintain a healthy diet, including the elderly and those at or below the poverty level. Clients include current CAMBA clients, those referred by other agencies and organizations and people who self-refer.
Foodtown is located at 382 McDonald Avenue, at the corner of Albemarle Road, in Kensington.

At this time, donations of cans of tuna fish, cans of pasta sauce, and boxes of cereal are needed. Drop off your donations in the front part of the church, which is open until 6:00 p.m. on most days, or bring them to the rectory, if you prefer.
The non-denominational food pantry currently serves about sixty families. It relies entirely on community donations.
