AUCTION OF ART BY LOCAL AND NATIONALLY-RECOGNIZED ARTISTS

Art Auction

Friday, November 18th, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Local artists and the P.S. 130 community will join together for the fourth year in a row at the P.S. 130 PTA's Fall Art Auction.

Thanks to generous donations by fifty local and nationally-recognized artists from all disciplines, this one-night event will raise money to supply art materials for all of P.S. 130's classrooms.

The art auction is one of the school's biggest fund raising events. Last year, seventy pieces of art were donated, raising more than $10,000.

Bidding will be done online only, starting tomorrow, November 14th.

The event will take place on Friday, November 18th, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Lark Cafe. The suggested donation at the door for admission is $10.

BOOK SWAP FUND RAISER

                                            Book Swap
                    Sunday, November 20th, 10:00 a.m. to noon

To raise funds for P.S. 154, Founders Workspace will host a Book Swap on Sunday, November 20th, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Donate books that you're done with and replace them with books that are new to you. All of the proceeds will be given to P.S. 154.

Sometime this week, bring at least ten gently-used books to Founders Workspace, including books for children and adults. You can drop them off between 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Monday, November 14th, through Friday, November 18th, and between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19th.

A $10 donation will get you a ticket for the Book Swap, where you’ll be able to pick out ten books to take home with you.

Any books that aren't purchased will be donated to the school or to the Windsor Terrace Library.

FREE MAMMOGRAMS IN MOBILE CARE UNIT

Free Mammograms and Breast Exams

Thursday, November 17th

9:00 a.m. to noon and 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Get a mammogram if you do have a lump or any other sign of breast cancer. Get a mammogram if you don't have a lump or any other sign of breast cancer.

On Thursday, November 17th, Assemblymember Jim Brennan is co-sponsoring free breast cancer screenings in cooperation with the American Italian Cancer Foundation in its Mobile Care Clinic. The foundation has been offering free mammograms since 1987.

A free digital mammogram--an x-ray of the breast--and a clinical breast exam will be provided to women aged forty or older who live in New York City and who haven't had a mammogram in the past twelve months.

No co-pays are required; deductibles are waived.

Medical services will be provided by Multi-Diagnostic Services. 

The screenings will be done at Assemblymember Brennan's district offices:

• 416 7th Avenue, between 14th and 13th streets, from 9:00 a.m. to noon,
• 1414 Cortelyou Road, between Rugby and Marlborough roads (map), just a few blocks east of Coney Island Avenue, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

SHUTTLE BUS REPLACES F TRAIN FROM CHURCH TO STILLWELL

ASK WHAT YOUR COMMUNITY BOARD CAN DO FOR YOU

                    Albemarle Neighborhood Association Meeting
                 Thursday, November 17th, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Barry Spitzer, District Manager of Community Board 12, will be the guest speaker at the November 17th meeting of the Albemarle Neighborhood Association (ANA).

The community board hired Mr. Spitzer for the position in March 2014, replacing Wolf Sender. Mr. Spitzer is the first Hasidic Jewish district manager in New York City.

The mission of the community board is to advise elected officials and government agencies on matters affecting the social welfare of the district. Residents tell the board what the community's needs are, and the board attempts to get these needs met.

The role of the district manager, according to page 51 of 2010 Handbook for Community Board Members, is to

     (1) process service complaints;
     (2) preside at meetings of the District Service Cabinet; and
     (3) perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Community Board.

Community Board 12 meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month, except during July and August. All meetings are open to the public and are held at Amico Senior Center, 5901 13th Avenue, at the corner of 59th Street, in Borough Park.

As always, after the ANA meeting, refreshments provided by Foodtown and ANA will be served.

Members of ANA as well as non-members are welcome to attend all ANA community meetings. Admission is free.

Albemarle Neighborhood Association (ANA) is the oldest neighborhood association in Brooklyn. Since its founding in 1973, it has worked to advance Kensington's quality of life. ANA's meetings are free and are open to the public. They provide a place for Kensington's residents to address safety, security, and quality of life issues.

ANA helps create a safe and stable neighborhood by working closely with its members, other neighborhood residents, city agencies, and elected officials to address key issues.
