POST-ELECTION COMMUNITY GATHERING FOR BANGLADESHI MUSLIMS



Post-election Bangladeshi Muslim
Community Gathering
 Friday, November 11th, 2:00 p.m.

In the wake of Tuesday's presidential election results, Bangladeshi Muslim residents of Brooklyn will meet in Kensington for a community conversation about how to respond to and prepare for a Trump presidency.

Participants will include, subject to change,

  • Mamnun Haq, Community Leader, Community Board 12 Member
  • Naimul Islam, Youth Community Leader
  • Mian Quadry, Community Leader
  • Hasiba Haq, Community Leader, Arts and Democracy
  • Hanif Yazdi, Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs
  • Bangladesh Muslim Center
  • Piyali Basak, Senior Attorney, Brooklyn Defender Services, Family Defense Practice
  • South Asian Youth Action (SAYA)
  • Bangladeshi religious leaders, community leaders, and residents 

The gathering will take place at Avenue C Plaza, at the intersection of McDonald Avenue and Avenue C.

KENSINGTON COMMUNITY LEADER WILL BE HONORED BY BROOKLYN DEMOCRATS


Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats (CBID) will honor Kensington resident Mamnunul Haq for his work and civic activities at its 47th annual fund raising dinner on Sunday, May 1st, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Mamnun is being honored for his work as a civic leader in the Bangladeshi community of Kensington and surrounding neighborhoods, his years of work on Brooklyn Community Board 12 and Participatory Budgeting, and his work in the Section for Health Equity, NYU Department of Population Health, where he provides research support for the Diabetes, Research, Education, & Action for Minorities (DREAM) Project.

Also being honored are Domestic Workers United (DWU); David Pechefsky, CBID President 2015; Muslim Community Network; and Green-Wood Historic Fund.

The public is welcome to buy tickets to the dinner or have an ad published in the journal. The deadline for providing material for the journal is April 25th. Costs are listed on the last page of the invitation above.

KENSINGTON COMMUNITY ORGANIZER ATTENDS STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS

At the invitation of Congressmember Jerrold Nadler--one of Kensington's representatives--Kensington resident Mamnunul (Mamnun) Haq attended President Obama's State of the Union address this year. Congratulations to Mamnun on this honor.

Mamnun is an active contributor to the Kensington community. He serves our neighborhood as a member of the  Kensington Stewards, a member of the Avenue C Plaza Organizing Committee, the Sergeant-At-Arms and an Executive Committee member for Community Board 12, and a Participatory Budgeting delegate, district committee member, and city-wide steering committee member.
