A Passport Card is much cheaper than a Passport Book, but you can only use it for entering the U.S. from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda. You can't use it for international air travel.
Fill out a form online or download it and fill it out by hand and bring it to the post office to save yourself some time when you're there.
