SUSPENSIONS AND OTHER CHANGES FOR THE KING HOLIDAY

Alternate side of the street parking regulations--normally in effect on weekdays and Saturdays so that streets can be cleaned--will be suspended on Monday, January 16th, for Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. Parking meter regulations and all other parking regulations will be in effect.

Garbage, recycling, and organics collections will be suspended.

New York City subways and buses will operate on a weekday schedule with minor timing changes. Give yourself extra time for your commute.

Public schools, post offices, banks, and federal, state, and city agencies will be closed.

INAUGURATION AND RECEPTION FOR OUR NEW STATE ASSEMBLYMEMBER

Our newly-elected New York State assemblymember in the 44th District, Robert (Bobby) Carroll, will hold a public inauguration ceremony for the community to attend. It will take place at the P.S. 130 upper school (The Parkside School) on Sunday, January 29th, at 2:00 p.m. The school is located at 713 Caton Avenue, between E. 7th and E. 8th streets.

Carroll has been appointed to serve on four committees:  Election Law; Labor; Tourism, Parks, Arts & Sports Development; and Cities. If you have any issues or concerns in those or any other areas, he would like you to call his office at (718) 788-7221.

NEW COMMANDER FOR 66TH PRECINCT

Captain David A. Wall

Captain David A. Wall has replaced Deputy Inspector Kenneth Quick as commanding officer of the NYPD's 66th Precinct, covering Kensington, Borough Park, and Midwood. Captain Wall was previously the executive officer of the 71st Precinct in Crown Heights.

Inspector Quick, who was promoted to that rank from captain on December 21st, came to the 66th Precinct in March 2015. He has been appointed commanding officer in the Deputy Commissioner of Administration Office.

FIRE IN OCEAN PARKWAY APARTMENT BUILDING

A large fire in the apartment building at 175 Ocean Parkway was extinguished after burning for close to an hour. The building is between Church and Caton avenues in Kensington.

The Daily News reports that three people were injured and two apartments were gutted--the second floor apartment where the fire broke out and the apartment directly above it.

A tenant states that the second, third, and fourth floor apartments in that line, facing Ocean Parkway, were affected.

The cause of the fire isn't yet known and is under investigation.

OCCUPY KENSINGTON MEETING TO PLAN RESPONSES TO THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION

PROMOTIONS FOR COMMANDING OFFICERS OF 66TH AND 72ND PRECINCTS

Deputy Inspector Kenneth Quick, 66th Pct.

Deputy Inspector Emmanuel Gonzalez, 72nd Pct.

Captain Kenneth Quick, Commanding Officer of the 66th Precinct since March 2015, and Captain Emmanuel Gonzalez, Commanding Officer of the 72nd Precinct since March 2016, were promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector in a ceremony at 1 Police Plaza on December 21st.

The 66th Precinct serves Kensington, Borough Park, and part of Midwood. The 72nd serves Windsor Terrace and Sunset Park.

Prior to commanding the 66th Precinct, Deputy Inspector Quick served in the Patrol Boro Brooklyn South Specialized Units, which manages thirteen precincts, including the 66th. 

He was appointed to the New York City Police Department in July 1999. He began his career by patrolling the 70th Precinct. In February 2005, he was promoted to Sergeant. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant in December 2009 and to Captain in February 2012.

Captain Quick also served in the 72nd and 83rd precincts.

Deputy Inspector Gonzalez, prior to commanding the 72nd Precinct, was Executive Officer at the 66th Precinct. He was appointed to that position in March 2015.

Ten years ago, when he was a lieutenant, Captain Gonzalez was the commander of the first platoon in the 70th Precinct, covering Prospect Park South, Flatbush-Ditmas Park, and part of Midwood.
