DON'T GET TOWED WHEN TV SHOW TAKES UP NEIGHBORHOOD PARKING SPACES

Dear Residents and Merchants,

We are currently filming scenes for the fourth season of HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire,” and we wanted to make you aware of our upcoming presence in your neighborhood.

On Tuesday, February 19th we will be filming interior scenes in your neighborhood from approximately 8AM– 5PM.   In order to facilitate filming, we will need to hold parking for our production vehicles beginning on Monday, February 18th.

The streets affected are as follows:

§  Church Ave btw Ocean Parkway & E 3rd St, Both Sides

§    E 5th St btw Church Ave & Albemarle Rd, Both Sides

§     Albemarle Rd. btw E 5th St & Ocean Pkwy, South Side only

Once all equipment trucks are parked, we will release any unused parking back to the public.

In order to park on these streets, we will follow the city program of utilizing the Vehicle Tow Unit (VTU) of the NYPD.  We will post No Parking signs in advance.  Please read these signs carefully.  They delineate when tow trucks will arrive to relocate any cars that remain.  There is no cost or penalty to the owners of relocated cars.

TOW TRUCKS WILL ARRIVE ON
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 18TH @ 10PM

In the event that your car is relocated, contact one of the Parking Assistants or your local precinct.  They will tell you where your car can be found.  We urge you to pay attention to the signs to avoid any inconvenience.  This is the same program that is used for parades and other public events throughout the city.

If you have particular concerns (scheduled deliveries, moving, construction, accessibility needs, etc.) that must be addressed, please call the Locations Department at 917/671-5250 or see a member of the Locations Department on set.

Please know that we are working in close cooperation with the Mayor’s Office of Film Theater and Broadcasting and the NYPD Film and Television Unit. We look forward to filming in your neighborhood, and will do what we can to minimize the impact of our presence in the neighborhood.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

Sincerely,

The Locations Department

PROSPECT AVE. WALGREENS ISN'T SAFETY CONSCIOUS

Unshoveled sidewalks. All photos courtesy of Dan Segelin.

A message to Walgreens, the leaseholder at 289 Prospect Avenue, former site of Key Food:
"Whether you're the owner, tenant, occupant or the person in charge of any lot or building, you must clear the snow and/or ice from your sidewalk within four (4) hours after the snow has stopped falling, or by 11 a.m. if the snow stopped falling after 9 p.m. the night before. Failure to comply with the law may result in fines ranging from $100 to $350." -- Department of Sanitation New York City
Clearing snow from a sidewalk reduces the odds of your neighbors slipping, falling, and getting injured and reduces your chances of getting sued. Next time we have snow, don't violate the law or this aspect of being a good neighbor.

MORE PARKING RULE SUSPENSIONS

The New York City Department of Transportation, in conjunction with the Department of Sanitation, has announced that Alternate Side of the Street Parking regulations will be suspended citywide through Wednesday, February 13th, to facilitate snow removal and for the holidays (Lincoln's birthday and Ash Wednesday).

However, parking meter regulations will remain in effect throughout the city on those days.

PENNIES FOR PENNY: HELP A DOG BE ABLE TO RUN AGAIN

Penny has a problem: her legs can't do what her brain tells them to. With torn ligaments in both back legs and arthritis in both front legs, even though she's energetic and fun-loving and only two years old, it's difficult and painful for her to run, sit, go down steps, and move in all the ways that dogs love and need to.

Baileigh and Kye, the nice people who adopted Penny from Sean Casey Animal Rescue last May, want her to have a pain-free, happy, and active life. Two surgeries, one to repair each torn anterior cruciate ligament, will have a huge positive impact on Penny's ability to move and on her quality of life.

When you want to do something or buy something you can't afford, you either put it our of your mind or you try to find a way to pay for it--now or as soon as possible. The thing that's wanted here is a pain-free, active life for a beloved animal companion. Baileigh and Kye don't have the amount of money that's needed to pay for the expensive surgeries. That isn't something they can put out of their minds. They have to get Penny the relief she needs. They needed to think up a way to try to afford it.

What they've come up with is the campaign "Pennies for Penny's TTA Surgery." It's on indiegogo at http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/pennies-for-penny-s-tta-surgery?c=home. They're offering interesting perks in exchange for financial contributions that will be put toward the cost of the surgeries.  The perks range from the whimsical to the artistic to the practical. Please go to Penny's page and figure out how much you can afford to contribute and which delightful perk you'd like in exchange.
