POLITICAL PROTEST POSTCARD PARTY NUMBER THREE

Community Political Protest Postcard Party
Tuesday, March 21st, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On next week's Resist Trump Tuesday, join like-minded neighbors in writing postcards on the issues of the day to the White House,
senators, members of Congress, committee members, and cabinet secretaries.

Make yourself heard: flood them with postcards. Handwritten mail is one of the most effective ways to communicate with government officials.

A $2 or $3 donation will be requested to reimburse the organizers for the cost of stamps and postcards. Any money left over will be donated to the ACLU, which is being kept very busy under the current administration.

If you'd rather, you can bring your own stamps and postcards. And return address labels or an address stamp. And a pen.

If you are going to be at the postcard writing party, please RSVP to acdesign @ verizon.net.

This event will be at Brooklyn Commune, located at 601 Greenwood Avenue, at the corner of Prospect Avenue, in Windsor Terrace, on Tuesday, March 21st, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

If you're taking the Coney Island-bound F train, board the train toward the back end and get out at Fort Hamilton Parkway station. On the Manhattan-bound F, board toward the front.

Thank you to Eugenie and Chris, the owners of Brooklyn Commune (and Butterfunk Kitchen), who are again generously donating the after-hours use of their restaurant for this community event.

Butterfunk Kitchen is right next door to Brooklyn Commune, and its menu will be available to order from. You can also buy beer, wine, non-alcoholic beverages, and desserts.

PUBLIC SCHOOLS CLOSED TOMORROW

All public schools will be closed tomorrow, March 14th, because of the expected blizzard, the New York City Department of Education has announced.

Tomorrow's student after-school activities and PSAL games have been canceled. All yellow bus service will be suspended.

Call 311 if you have any questions. For additional information, see nyc.gov/schools.

UPDATED BLIZZARD REPORT AND WARNINGS INCREASE IN INTENSITY

Lots of snow! Lots of wind! Lots of gusting! Low temperatures!

Garbage and recycling collections will be suspended once snow operations begin.

The National Weather Service has upgraded the Blizzard Watch to a Blizzard Warning for New York City. The Blizzard Warning will be in effect from midnight on Monday until midnight on Tuesday.

We're expecting 12 to 20 inches of snow, winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour with gusts of up to 55 miles per hour, and cold temperatures.

The snow could fall at a rate of 2 to 4 inches per hour, resulting in whiteout conditions and visibility of less than a quarter of a mile.

Stay off the roads, unless you have an emergency. If you have to travel, use mass transit.

Be prepared to potentially lose power. Charge your cell phone batteries, gather supplies, and turn your refrigerators and freezers to a colder setting.

Don't go near power lines that have been knocked down. That could be deadly.

If you're affected by a power outage, turn off your appliances and keep your refrigerator doors closed to prevent food spoilage. Don't use generators indoors.

If you lose power and you have a disability/access needs or if you use Life Sustaining Equipment (LSE) and you need immediate assistance, dial 9-1-1.

Reminder: The Department of Transportation has suspended alternate side parking regulations on Tuesday, March 14th, and Wednesday, March 15th, for snow removal. Meters remain in effect.

For the latest weather information, see www.weather.gov/okx.

Winter isn't done with us yet. A blizzard watch will be in effect from Monday at midnight until Tuesday at midnight. The prediction is for a nor'easter that will bring 12 to 18 inches of snow (and winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph).

Alternate side of the street parking regulations--normally in effect on weekdays and Saturdays so that streets can be cleaned--will be suspended on Tuesday, March 14th, and Wednesday, March 15th, to facilitate snow removal.

Parking meter regulations and all other parking regulations will be in effect.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY SPEAK-OUT IN KENSINGTON PLAZA

International Women's Day Speak-out
Wednesday, March 8th, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

International Women's Day, observed annually on March 8th, is a global day that celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

Women and their allies will act together on International Women's Day for equity, justice, and the human rights of women through a one-day demonstration of economic solidarity--the International Women's Strike.

The strike is an international day of action that has been planned and organized by women in more than thirty countries. In the United States, the organizers of January's Women's March on Washington have named this one-day economic strike A Day Without A Woman.

On that day, women are encouraged to t
ake the day off from paid and unpaid labor, if they can.

On that day, everyone is encouraged to avoid shopping in stores and online, except to patronize small, woman-owned, and minority-owned businesses.

On that day, everyone can wear red to show solidarity with the strike.

On that day, everyone would protest and demonstrate. In Kensington, Occupy Kensington is hosting a speak-out in Kensington Plaza from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. All are welcome.
