A father threw his three children out of a third-floor attic window at about 7: 25 this morning to save them from a three-alarm fire in their three-story home. Some reports say that one of the three children jumped from the window. The most recent report says that firefighters rescued four people from the attic.
The fire began on the first floor of 451 E. 7th Street, between Avenue C and Cortelyou Road, and spread to the second and third floors. The fourth and sixth floors of the six-story apartment building next to the house also caught fire. One child and two firefighters were injured.

Fifteen people are now homeless; nine of them are children who lived in the private house. Everyone was taken to a shelter at Palm Gardens Nursing Home on Avenue C. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
