Since we kicked off the South of Prospect Neighborhood Plan, we've been busy engaging with community members and groups. Our multi-lingual Community Priorities survey, which will remain open until October 1, has collected invaluable local input from more than 1,800 people.At the end of July, NYC Planning staff joined community gatherings at Celebrate Kensington! and at the Flatbush Development Corporation's Open Streets finale. And in the beginning of August, we held a preliminary meeting and a walking tour with representatives from Community Boards 12 and 14.As the summer winds down, we are looking forward to a busy schedule this fall with more public events and ways to engage on the Plan!First Public Workshop: Insights & VisioningWe are thrilled to announce the dates for our first public workshop:
- In-person workshop: Tuesday, September 15, 6:30 pm, at P.S. 889 on Hinckley Place at Coney Island Avenue
- Virtual workshop: Wednesday, September 23, 6:30 pm, held virtually on Zoom
Each event will include opening remarks from Council Members Shahana Hanif and Rita Joseph; several stations with information about planning in NYC and the study area; preliminary findings from our survey; and activities where community members will be able to share their current perceptions — and a future vision — of the neighborhood.

Stang Thai has closed. The Thai and Vietnamese fusion restaurant opened at 3019 Fort Hamilton Parkway, between E. 2nd and E. 3rd streets, in 2018.
The previous occupant was Thai Tony's (2007-2018). Before that, it was Windsor House Cafe (2005-2007). The occupant prior to that was 1 Deli Grocery.
The East 4th Street Community Garden will be hosting a Battle of Brooklyn 250 Retrospective on Sunday August 30th, 3-4.30 pm.
Join us as we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Brooklyn, with presentations and discussions with local experts, including Martin Maher (Brooklyn Parks Commissioner), Dominique Jean-Louis (Center for Brooklyn History), Megan J. Elias (Smithsonian Natural Museum of American History), and Lisa Guermsey (independent researcher/writer).
Moderated by Stephen Petrus (LaGuardia Community College).
