Saturday, October 24, 1:00-6:00pm
McDonald Avenue between Church Avenue and Avenue C
Let’s come together for our 10th anniversary of celebrating memories of our loved ones.
Join Casa Cultural for a parade de las Catrinas, community ofrendas, arts activities, music and dance performances, engagements with community groups, and more! The afternoon kicks off with a festive puppet parade. Families can enjoy hands-on art making, face painting, books, food, raffles and giveaways, and contribute a photo to the event’s centerpiece—our communal ofrenda.
1:00 - 1:30pm:
Parade de las Catrinas, featuring papier-mâché sugar skulls, alebrijes, and other colorful creations made by local schools and families, accompanied by Mariachis Nuevo Sol and Mariachis Águila y Plata. Presented in partnership with The Singing Winds.
1:00 - 6:00pm:
Activities in partnership with Brooklyn Museum on Wheels will include mask-making, pumpkin painting, printmaking with Mobile Print Power; and art and wellness with Casa Finca. Additional crafts will include marigold making, designing hojalata frames, sugar skull crafts, a message-for-loved-ones tent, and a cross-cultural henna table.
Community engagements will include the House of Speakeasy Bookmobile with book giveaways, Prospect Park Alliance nature education crafts for kids, a small Brooklyn Porch Concert performance with youth musician recruitment, Windsor Terrace Food Coop table, graffiti with Willie Mae Rock Camp, composing information from Big Reuse, and more!
3:00 - 6:00pm
Performances featuring Calpulli Tletlpapalotzin, Ballet Mariposas, Ballet Folklório Quetzalcoatl NY, Tecuanes San Rafael, and Mariachis Bohemio
