PROSPECT PARK TREE FUND IN MEMORY OF LEIBY KLETZKY

A neighbor suggested that one or more trees be planted in Prospect Park to memorialize the life of Leiby Kletzky. This plan has been approved by the Prospect Park Alliance. Below is the information on how you can participate in this effort.
from Jody Alperin
I have spoke with Phyllis Sears at Prospect Park and she has set it up so that people can contribute directly to the tree fund for Leiby Kletzky. I will post the information below but there are three ways to give--online, check in the mail or credit card over the phone. Just be sure to make note that you are donating to the "Tree Fund for Leiby Kletzky" either in the memo line of your check, to the person on the phone or in the comments section of the online giving page. I will keep in touch with Phyllis to see how much we raise so we know what we are able to plant. The park will give us a certificate we can give to the family and we can also hold a planting ceremony. We can certainly reach out to the family when the time comes for a ceremony and invite them to attend.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions and please pass on this information to anyone else who might like to contribute but might not be on the list serve.
Thanks so much,
Jody Alperin

Does anyone have information about donations to the family? I would like to send them money. Perhaps it could be used towards the education of his siblings.

The family of Leiby Kletzky has set up a new charity website, under the banner of "Coping with Grief by Doing Good."

The Leiby Kletzky Memorial Fund hopes to raise $1 million for needy children and families. Leiby's parents, Nachman and Esty Kletzky, promise on the website that the fund will help young orphans, children at risk, poor parents, critically ill young children and more. http://www.give2gether.com/projects/help-support-leiby-kletzky/

I want to thank your for creating this beautiful memorial. As a member of Leiby's community, I am so touched to see the way people of all backgrounds are coming together and sharing in this family's pain.
Leiby's grandfather was asked what "mitzvos"(good deeds) people should do in honor of Leiby's memory.
His grandfather said that people should be more cognizant of being kind to each other in simple ways, greeting people with a smile, being polite, and saying something to cheer up a sad person.
By creating this memorial, you are doing a great act of kindness that I know will bring comfort to Leiby's family. It certainly brought me comfort.

Will there be a tree planting ceremony at some time?
If so, please let us know so that we can attend.

Sarah, I believe there is going to be a tree-planting ceremony sometime. I'll most certainly announce it on this blog.

Thank you for your kind words about the person who initiated the idea of planting trees and those who are donating or otherwise participating in the project.

Good people make good neighbors.

Sarah, the tree will be planted tomorrow (Monday, November 21st) at 1:00 p.m. There won't be a ceremony, just a planting. As a donor, I received a notice about the planting, so I don't know if it's open to the public. You can e-mail Phyllis Sears at Prospect Park (psears @ prospectpark.org.) to find out. The tree will be planted in the north end of the Longmeadow near the Grand Army Plaza entrance to the Park. Enter the Park at Grand Army Plaza using the path to the right of the drive (not on the drive), then make a left through the Meadowport Arch tunnel (under the road) and find the location right by the path. A map at http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&vpsrc=6&ctz=300&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=216259032437812069320.0004b2052eb4bab379216&ll=40.663192,-73.9464&spn=0.069274,0.111065&t=m&z=13 shows the location.
