Free Sing-alongs

Wednesday, July 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th

Free sing-alongs are being offered in Vanderbilt Playground, Slope Park, and Greenwood Playground every Wednesday in July.

Sing n' Schmooze: Windsor Terrace, Kensington and Greenwood Heights joins JCC Brooklyn, a project of the Kings Bay Y, for the pop-up events. Every week will have music, movement, and stories, with song leaders from Tkiya.

The events are open to all children.

• 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.: Vanderbilt Playground, on West Drive in Prospect Park, near Prospect Park Southwest and Vanderbilt Street
• 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.: Slope Park Playground, at 6th Avenue and 18th Street
• 4:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.: Greenwood Playground, on E. 5th Street, between Fort Hamilton Parkway and Greenwood Avenue

 

"INCREDIBLE INVERTEBRATES": STARS OF THE FIRST POP-UP AUDUBON AT VANDERBILT PLAYGROUND

Pop-Up Audubon: Incredible Invertebrates
Saturdays and Sundays in June, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

                                starting on Saturday, June 4th

Kids and their adults are invited to join the Prospect Park Alliance in examining the park's tiniest creatures. Admission is free. The educational, fun events will include

• Adventure Hike, noon to 1:00 p.m.: Alliance naturalists will introduce participants to the natural history of Prospect Park and the Park's hidden trails. The hike is not recommended for children under five years old.
• Nature on the Go!, 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.: Discover the diverse array of aquatic life by examining the specimens of Prospect Park Lake.
• Nature's Helpers, 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.: Learn how mulch protects tree roots, and then spend time spreading wood chips around trees.
• Family Bird Watching, 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.: Learn how to use binoculars, and then join naturalists in identifying some of the 250 species of birds that live in Prospect Park.

Change of plans: Vanderbilt Playground will NOT be closed for repairs today.

VANDERBILT PLAYGROUND CLOSED FRIDAY

Vanderbilt Playground will be closed this Friday, April 29th, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. so that the minor repairs that were planned for two weeks ago can be made.

ONE-DAY CLOSING OF VANDERBILT PLAYGROUND

Vanderbilt Playground will be closed tomorrow--Thursday, April 14th--for minor repairs. It's expected that it'll be open on Friday morning.

VANDERBILT PLAYGROUND OFFICIALLY OPEN

Prospect Park's extensively-renovated Vanderbilt Playground was opened to the public a month ago; yesterday, speeches and a ribbon-cutting ceremony marked its official opening.

Since October 1st--after a seemingly endless wait--children have been able to enjoy the playground's traditional and non-traditional play equipment, including a newly-installed "space ball" for older children (made of beams and poles that form ladders and monkey bars), bucket swings for babies, a slide and steering wheels for toddlers, spinning platters, and jungle gyms equipped with tunnels, slides, monkey bars, ropes, and chain ladders. One of the spinning platters and one of the jungle gyms is for older kids and another set is for younger kids.

In the summer, separate water features for toddlers and older children will form pools and streams that children can play in to cool off.

Other improvements include new benches, mats, drinking fountains, fencing, and plantings and increased security lighting.

Vanderbilt Playground is in Prospect Park near Prospect Park Southwest and Vanderbilt Street.

VANDERBILT STREET PLAYGROUND WILL REOPEN TOMORROW

The newly-renovated Vanderbilt Street Playground,  located inside Prospect Park, near Prospect Park Southwest between Seeley and Vanderbilt streets, will reopen tomorrow, Saturday, October 2nd. The playground stays open until sunset. Sometime in the future, a ceremonial ribbon-cutting will take place.
