TOUR GAY GREEN-WOOD CEMETERY

Gay Green-wood
Saturday, October 7th, 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Green-Wood celebrates LGBT History Month with a special trolley tour illuminating permanent residents who have made a lasting impact on American culture in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Visit the graves of important LGBT figures, including the co-writer of "It’s Raining Men," Paul Jabara; the sculptor of Central Park’s Bethesda Fountain, Emma Stebbins; activists Drs. Emery Hetrick and Damien Martin; and Broadway lyricist Fred Ebb, among others. Tour-goers will mark each grave with a rainbow flag.

The tour will be led by the NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project, a cultural heritage initiative that is documenting LGBT historic sites of significance throughout New York City.

The project team, historic preservationists Andrew Dolkart, Ken Lustbader, Jay Shockley, and Amanda Davis, will be joined by Green-Wood’s Manager of Preservation and Restoration, Neela Wickremesinghe, who will share the ways these sites are preserved through restoration and preservation efforts.

Tickets for the tour cost $25 each for members of Green-Wood Cemetery and Brooklyn Historical Society and $30 each for non-members. Purchase tickets here.

Green-Wood trolley tours are fully accessible and ADA compliant.

To accommodate a wheelchair or other mobility device on the trolley, advance arrangements must be made. Call (718) 210-3080, ext. 1.

Portions of the tour take place outside the trolley and may require exiting the vehicle on multiple occasions. Contact the Historic Fund for more information.
