COUNTDOWN CLOCKS ARE IN ALL G TRAIN STATIONS

Real-time train arrival displays have now been installed in all stations serving the G subway line. Train arrival information is displayed on easy-to-read LCD display screens.

The new LCD displays use beacon technology. This involves placing four low-energy Bluetooth beacons on each train set and two receivers on each platform.

The system uses the existing wireless network in the stations and cloud computing. The receivers communicate with Bluetooth devices in the first car and last car of the train set.

When a train enters a station and when it leaves it, the technology uses the train's arrival and departure time to estimate when the train will get to its next stop. It displays that arrival time on the LCD display screens.

Altogether, 296 subway stations now have countdown clocks on platforms and/or on mezzanines near station entrances.
Displays at all lettered line stations will be installed by the end of 2017.
