Citizens Committee for New
York City has announced its September grant winner, "The Singing Winds: Storytelling from Around the World." The group, founded in 2011, also won grants in 2012 and 2013.
Reflecting the cultural diversity of
Kensington, Brooklyn, through storytelling, dance, music, and crafts, The Singing Winds features traditional folklore from the many
cultures and languages of Kensington's residents.
Hosted by P.S. 230, The Singing Winds presents professional artists and community groups in live performances that
bring to life the characters that have entertained and educated children
for centuries.
Programs are either free or low-cost.
The Singing Winds needs volunteers of all ages and cultural backgrounds. For more information about its projects, visit its website.
