The FDNY is battling fires in Con Ed manholes on E. 3rd Street, between Church Avenue and Albemarle Road.
The entire block has been closed off. Most of the homes are without electricity. Also affected are homes on E. 3rd between Albemarle Road and Caton Avenue.
The
FDNY had been going door-to-door to check for carbon monoxide when the second
manhole caught fire.
Advice: unplug all appliances that have a compressor, such as a refrigerator, in case of a power surge.
