PARASAILOR FROM KENSINGTON DIES

An unconscious Vladislav Cheloudko was floating in Rockaway Inlet, behind Kingsborough Community College Marine Center, on Sunday, October 7th. At 5:06 p.m., some people noticed him there.

When the NYPD Harbor Unit arrived, they determined that Mr. Cheloudko was upside down, unconscious, and unresponsive. EMS personnel performed CPR in an attempt to resuscitate him. They then rushed him to Coney Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Before being found floating in the inlet, Mr. Cheloudko had been parasailing. The Parasail Safety Council describes parasailing as a "thrill sport." A "passenger" is attached to a parachute, which is attached to a motor boat via a tow line.

The boat is driven at a high speed, lifting the parachute and passenger high into the air. Every bit of equipment must be in tip-top shape. Poor weather conditions, such as high winds, have the potential to affect the ride and take the parachute and passenger off-course.

Mr. Cheloudko resided in an apartment building in Kensington at 665 Ocean Parkway, between Webster and Newkirk avenues. He was a licensed general contractor (Vc Contracting, Inc.) with an office on Staten Island. He'd been in business for two years.

The exact cause of death won't be known until after a medical examiner performs an autopsy.
