TRYOUTS FOR THE HOLY NAME BOYS SWIM TEAM

VIDEO TRYOUT OPTION:
In addition to in-person tryouts we know a number of the interested swimmers already compete on teams. We would be happy to review a competition video clip in lieu of an in-person tryout or if you have access to a 25 yard pool and want to send a video of your swimmer please send the following to holynameboysswim@gmail.com:

For 7-12 year olds: a video of your son swimming 25 yards freestyle. If you also have video you'd like to share of them swimming another stroke for 25 yards or a longer distance, feel free to do so. If it's a competition video, please indicate which lane your son is in. If you have a video of him demonstrating flips turns and/or a racing start, you're welcome to share that as well. 

For 13-14 year olds: a video of your son swimming 50 yards freestyle and a video of them swimming another stroke for 25 yards or a longer distance. Again, if it's a competition video, please indicate which lane your son is in. If you have a video of him demonstrating flips turns and/or a racing start, you're welcome to share that as well.

If you submit a video tryout, please also fill out the form above so we can track address eligibility and contact information. All swimmers will be notified if they made the team by Sunday, September 10th.

"WINDSOR TERRACE GO BRAGH!" GREAT IRISH FAIR RETURNS TO WINDSOR TERRACE

 
42nd Annual Great Irish Fair of New York
Saturday, September 16th
Mass at 9:00 a.m., Fair at 11:00 a.m.

The Great Irish Fair of New York, billed as "New York City’s largest, longest running, and most popular Irish Music Festival," will again be held in Windsor Terrace, in the outside areas of Holy Name of Jesus  Parish. For many years, Coney Island was the home of the family-friendly fair.
 
During the coming weeks, the entertainment lineup and the honorees will be announced on the website of the host, the Irish American Building Society.
 
Tickets, which are on sale at https://www.iabsny.org/the-great-irish-fair, provide access to all of the day’s events, which include Irish music, vendors, Irish step-dancing, and bagpipes.

FREE FLU SHOTS IN WINDSOR TERRACE

 

Free Flu Shots
Thursday, November 5th, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
 
In partnership with NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, Assemblymember Robert Carroll is hosting an annual free flu shot event with State Senator Kevin Parker on Thursday, November 5th, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Quantities are limited.
 
COVID-19 safety precautions will be enforced. Masks must be worn.
 
Shots are available for adults eighteen years old and up.
 
Reservations are required. Schedule an appointment by sending an e-mail to Assemblymember Carroll's office at Carrollr @ nyassembly.gov or calling his District Office at (718) 788-7221.

CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING AND ROCK 'N' ROLLLLLL AT OUR LADY'S FIELD OF HOLY NAME (FREE ADMISSION)

Rain date: Wednesday, December 16th, 6:30 p.m.

Celebrate Christmas at the Holy Name Father's Guild first annual tree lighting. Everyone is invited to join in the festivities.

  • Bring an ornament to help decorate the tree.
  • Get a photo taken with Santa.
  • Enter the Ugly Sweater Contest. (Even though National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day isn't until December 18th!)
  • Groove to live rock 'n' roll holiday tunes performed by Full Disclosure.
  • Buy hot chocolate, hot cider, baked goods, and other items for yourselves, family, friends, neighbors....

All proceeds raised at the celebration will benefit the Holy Name Father's Guild Youth Sports Program.

The Rev. James Kieran Cunningham, Administrator of Holy Name of Jesus Parish, will be installed as Holy Name's tenth pastor on Monday, June 24th, at 7:00 p.m., followed by a casual reception at Bishop Ford High School. Father Jim began his service to Holy Name in September 2010.

MASS OF HOPE AND DONATION OF ITEMS FOR HURRICANE VICTIMS

Five parishes will celebrate a Mass of Hope together on behalf of the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Bring items to donate to your displaced and devastated fellow New Yorkers: new clothes, blankets, batteries, flashlights, water, gloves, hats, and anything else that would be suitable.

HOLY NAME PRIEST PASSES

Father Gary P. Rogers, pastor at Holy Name of Jesus Parish on Prospect Park West, passed away on Tuesday, July 19th, while still on sick leave. He began serving at Holy Name in 2007 and has been on sick leave for the past two years.

Playing golf and eating steak can raise money for Holy Name of Jesus Parish. Enjoy a full day of golf at Marine Park Golf Course, followed by a barbecue at Holy Name's Fr. Farrell's Shepherds Hall. Sponsor a hole on the course by naming your flag for your business, family name, family member, or friend.

Or go to just the barbecue and feast on steak with all the trimmings plus wine, tap beer, and soda. Entertainment and dancing are also on the menu.

Make your reservations online by Friday, May 20th for golf, the barbecue, or both. Tickets and reservations are also available at Holy Name Parish and at Farrell's Bar and Grill.
