QUEER KIDS AND ALLIES READING CLUB, APRIL-JUNE 2024

 
Queer Kids and Allies Reading Club
Three Saturdays:
April 6th, May 4th, and June 1st

The next three meetings of the free Queer Kids and Allies Reading Club, which began in February, will be held at the Windsor Terrace Library on
  • Saturday, April 6th, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.,
  • Saturday, May 4th, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and
  • Saturday, June 1st, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Activities include

  • read-alouds, for younger kids: 2:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • reading to yourself, for older kids: 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • coloring and fun, for all ages

You have the option to attend one, two, or all three of the meetings.

This community project is for a Girl Scout Bronze Award.

OPEN HOURS AND NON-COMPOSTING NEWS FOR THE EAST FOURTH STREET COMMUNITY GARDEN

 

The East Fourth Street Community Garden will be open for the spring and summer from April 3rd through October 30th. It will be open to the public on Wednesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and on Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

NO FOOD SCRAP DROP-OFF

Due to budget cuts, Big Reuse is no longer collecting food scrap drop-off. This means the garden will NOT be collecting food scraps from the public this season. We encourage you to participate in DSNY’s curbside composting program. Watch this video to learn more.

Community Board 7's next monthly public meeting will be held both in person at the board office and virtually via Zoom on Wednesday, March 20th, from 6:30 p.m. to about 8:00 p.m.
 
Community Board 7 is the liaison between New York City government agencies and the residents, business owners, and employees of Windsor Terrace, Greenwood Heights, South Slope, and Sunset Park.

Attendees will have two opportunities to address the board (items 6 and 14 on the agenda below). You're welcome to share you concerns, questions, needs, problems, suggestions, or solutions with CB 7's board members.

The Board's boundaries are the waterfront on the west, the Long Island Railroad cut to the South (approximately 65th Street); Our boundary extends north on 8th Avenue from 62nd Street to Greenwood Cemetery. We include all of the cemetery and the land between it and Prospect Park to Caton Avenue on the east. Our northern border is on 15th Street from Park Circle to Hamilton Avenue and continues on Hamilton Avenue to the Gowanus Canal.
Every neighborhood in New York City is represented by an all-volunteer community board that serves as the liaison between neighborhood residents and city agencies. Board members are appointed by the borough president.

LGBTQIA+ AND QUESTIONING YOUTH COMMUNITY GROUP (FREE)

The community group Rainbow Connection offers LGBTQIA+ and questioning youth a safe and accepting environment for engaging in lively conversation and participating in crafts.

The group will meet at The Craft Salon on Sunday, March 24th, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Fifteen participants between the ages of 0 months and 18+ years can be accommodated.

Children who are age six or younger must be accompanied by an adult. Children who are age seven or older can attend on their own.

49TH ANNUAL BROOKLYN ST. PATRICK'S PARADE IN WINDSOR TERRACE


49th Annual Brooklyn St. Patrick's Parade
Sunday, March 17th
Mass: 10:30 a.m.
Parade: 1:00 p.m.
 
The 49th Annual Brooklyn St. Patrick's Parade will assemble at Bartel-Pritchard Square on Sunday, March 17th, at 1:00 p.m. and step off at 1:30 p.m.
 
The day's festivities will include music, bagpipers, Irish dancers, marching bands, antique cars, and much more.
 
A pre-parade Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, 245 Prospect Park West, between Prospect Avenue and Windsor Place.
 
The parade will start and end at Bartel-Pritchard Square, located in Windsor Terrace at the intersection of Prospect Park West, 15th Street, and Prospect Park Southwest.
 
The Brooklyn St. Patrick's Parade is the oldest one in the borough, having been held annually since 1976, although it did not take place in 2020 or 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic,

72ND PRECINCT COMMUNITY COUNCIL'S MARCH MEETING WITH THE PUBLIC AND 72ND PRECINCT OFFICERS

 72nd Precinct Community Council Meeting
Tuesday, March 12th
7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The 72nd Precinct Community Council's meeting with the public and precinct officers will be held on Tuesday, March 12th, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Talk with the precinct's Acting Commanding Officer, Captain John Dasaro (who is filling in for Deputy Inspector Krystin Suarez during her leave of absence), its Community Affairs Officers, and the Neighborhood Coordination Officers (NCOs) for each of the precinct's sectors.

Everyone who lives or works in Windsor Terrace, Greenwood Heights, South Slope, and Sunset Park is invited to the meeting to discuss past crimes and learn the precinct is doing to prevent future crimes. Find out about the types of crime that have been taking place, their frequency, any enabling factors, and how to prevent them.

Members of the public are invited to voice their concerns about criminal activity, including armed robberies, rape and other forms of sexual assaults, home break-ins, burglaries in local stores, bank robberies, speeding drivers, stolen bicycles, package theft, and other crimes.
