DIAPERS AND CHILDREN'S SUMMER CLOTHES ARE NEEDED AT THE KENSINGTON FAMILY SHELTER

From Catherine and Tracy, the neighbors who are volunteer liaisons between the neighborhood and The Kensington family shelter:

Hi neighbors,

We hope everyone is having an amazing, relaxing summer. We wanted to update you on opportunities to help out our friends at The Kensington family shelter.

Because of the change in seasons and new residents coming in, the shelter is in need of summer clothing for children, particularly toddlers and pre-schoolers. Laundered, stain-free, gently used clothing can be dropped off at the shelter, 385 McDonald Ave., attention Uniquia Parker, any day before 4 p.m., through July 15. Please don't bring other types of clothing or household goods; the shelter has no need at the moment and cannot store them and will not accept them.

In addition, the shelter is in dire need of diapers, especially sizes 3-6, including swimmer diapers. And wipes are always needed. If you would like to donate, they can be dropped off or mailed to the above address any time.

Our last big community event was a spring fling for the kids that included a very competitive egg hunt, a sing-along, a big spread of donated food, and face-painting. It was a great afternoon and we will, of course, be planning more events for the fall and will send along details when we have them.

Thanks once again to all of you for your generosity. It means so much to the shelter residents—and to us! This community is a model for the entire city. We have folks from other neighborhoods reaching out to us to find out how they can support shelters moving into their area. You planted a seed that can grow far and wide.

Love,
Tracy and Catherine
