Musician and Brooklyn native Eric Alabaster will curate a night of classical Pakistani song with Salamat Ali, Roy Nathanson, and guests.
In Midwood (also known as "Little Pakistan"), Alabaster's studio (also dubbed Eric Ki Bethak, or, "Eric's Place") is a hub for social gatherings and a space for sharing traditional music and knowledge within the Pakistani and South Asian community. Alabaster is a drummer, composer, tabla player, and music educator.
Vocalist and composer Salamat Ali, a former professor of music at National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) in Karachi, Pakistan, is now based in the United States, along with his life partner, the renowned vocalist Azra Riaz. He has worked in television and radio, and his career has taken him to concert venues throughout the world.
Roy Nathanson is an American saxophonist, composer, bandleader, actor, and teacher. He became the leader and principal composer of the Jazz Passengers, a six-piece group that he founded with Curtis Fowlkes in 1987. The band has toured Europe, the United States, and Canada and played at major festivals and has recorded eight albums since its debut release.
