'RAISING THE REVOLUTION: AFFIRMING MOTHERHOOD"

"Raising the Revolution: Affirming Motherhood"
Sunday, May 15th, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
at Butterfunk Kitchen in Windsor Terrace

A description of "Raising the Revolution: Affirming Motherhood" by the host, AF3IRM NYC:
Please join AF3IRM NYC for readings and discussions on what mothering looks like in our current reality. We invited two authors who contributed compelling essays to the groundbreaking anthology Revolutionary Mothering: Love on the Front Lines.

Lisa Factora-Borchers and Terri Nilliasca will read from their beautifully written pieces that speak of love alongside struggle. They will share their stories as women and as mothers who deal with the intersecting legacies of two cultures and hopes, how their roles as protectors and nurturers are driven not just by familial love, but by social duty.

AF3IRM’s Joan Ariete will facilitate the discussion and will speak on her involvement in social activism against the backdrop of being an undocumented mother to an American son.

Through "Raising the Revolution: Affirming Motherhood," AF3IRM aims to recognize and discuss the revolutionary powers of motherhood. How do we affirm the roles of motherhood in activism? How does the act of mothering continue to be a revolutionary force in the world? Come join us in celebration and solidarity.

A description of Revolutionary Mothering: Love on the Front Lines by its publisher, PM Press:
Inspired by the legacy of radical and queer black feminists of the 1970s and ’80s, Revolutionary Mothering places marginalized mothers of color at the center of a world of necessary transformation.
The challenges we face as movements working for racial, economic, reproductive, gender, and food justice, as well as anti-violence, anti-imperialist, and queer liberation are the same challenges that many mothers face every day.
Oppressed mothers create a generous space for life in the face of life-threatening limits, activate a powerful vision of the future while navigating tangible concerns in the present, move beyond individual narratives of choice toward collective solutions, live for more than ourselves, and remain accountable to a future that we cannot always see.
Revolutionary Mothering is a movement-shifting anthology committed to birthing new worlds, full of faith and hope for what we can raise up together.
