CLAIM A FREE TREE FOR YOUR YARD OR A PUBLIC SPACE

Tree Giveaway
Saturday, April 16th, noon to 2:00 p.m.

Reserve a free tree online (one per address) and pick it up on April 16th at Compost for Brooklyn in Kensington.

Choose the one you want from among these types of trees: Serviceberry, Eastern Redbud, American Plum, and River Birch.

To qualify for a tree, you have to agree to

  • plant the tree in one of the five boroughs,
  • keep it properly watered and maintained, and
  • plant it in the ground in a front yard, back yard, community garden, community center, or schoolyard; do not plant it on a street, in a city park, in a planter or container, or on a terrace, balcony, or roof.

To claim your tree and take it away, arrive at Compost for Brooklyn by noon.
A tree will be considered unclaimed if the person who reserved it has not picked it up by 1:00.

Any trees that are not claimed will be given away between 1:00 and 2:00 on a first-come, first served basis to anyone who shows up. Trees that nobody reserved will also be given away.

Online registration for the American Plum is full, but a limited number of them will be available at the event on a first-come, first-served basis. If American Plum is the best tree for your space, arrive early and wait on the walk-up line in hopes of getting one.

The day before the event, you will be notified via a final confirmation e-mail if your application has been approved.

Event details are subject to change. Check here for any changes before showing up.
