Adolfo Martinez, 26, the man who was arrested at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, has confessed to the Monday night sexual assault of an eighteen-year-old woman on 36th Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenues in Sunset Park.
A sketch of Martinez, released on Tuesday night just a few hours before his arrest, was based on the description given to police by Monday night's Vanderbilt Street victim. She described her attacker as 20 to 25 years old, about 5'4" tall, medium build, with a mole on the left side of his neck.
Martinez was also visible on a surveillance video in Sunset Park. He is awaiting arraignment on charges of sexual abuse in the third degree and forcible touching.
The police are now trying to determine which of the other sexual attacks he committed, if any. He'll be placed in lineups to see if other victims can identify him as their attacker. Martinez has admitted to committing previous assaults, but he says that he "doesn’t remember precisely where or when."
