The Kensington Dog Run, located on Coney Island Avenue in the Parade Ground near Prospect Park, opened in 2020. It came into existence after years of grassroots planning and organizing by neighborhood dog owners who wanted to create a dog run where dogs could enjoy the benefits of exercising, socializing, and breathing fresh air off-leash.

The project was made possible with funds allocated via Participatory Budgeting from New York City Councilmember Mathieu Eugene of District 40 as well as via Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams' capital allocations. The balance of the funds that were needed were covered by Councilmember Brad Lander of District 39.

The Kensington Dog Run Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
