Apply now to become a member of Community Board 7 (Windsor Terrace, Sunset Park) or Community Board 12 (Kensington, Borough Park, part of Midwood). The
all-volunteer community boards are the link between the city's agencies and a neighborhood's residents,
business owners, and other stakeholders.
Community boards serve in an
advisory capacity. They manage a budget, and they have oversight over health,
transportation, housing, the environment, land use and
zoning, and other issues.
To become a member of a community board, you have to be a resident of New York City and you have to live, work
in, own a business in/have a professional interest in, attend school in, or have
some other significant interest in the district that the board serves.
The deadline for applying for membership is Friday, March 4th, at 4:59 p.m. Apply online by filling out the form posted at https://nyccb.wufoo.com/forms/brooklyn-community-board-application-22/.
Board members will be appointed for a two-year term by the recently-elected Brooklyn Borough President, Antonio Reynoso.
Half of the members are chosen on the recommendation of the local City Councilmember, so tell our Councilmember, Shahana Hanif, that you're interested in being on a board. Her office phone number is (718) 499-1090 and her e-mail address is District39@council.nyc.gov.
Every neighborhood in New York City is covered by a community board of up to fifty members who are tasked to fight for the needs of
the entire community district that they represent.
Since the start of the pandemic, full board meetings and committee meetings have been held
virtually.
Meetings of the full board are held once a month from September through June for an hour or two. Committee meetings are held as needed.
