RENOWNED KLEZMER MUSICIANS IN CONCERT IN KENSINGTON

                                     Night of the Klezmer Virtuosi:
Andy Statman Klezmer Ensemble
and
Jake Shulman-Ment's Midwood
              Wednesday, October 25th, 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Andy Statman Klezmer Ensemble and Jake Shulman-Ment's Midwood will bring klezmer music to Flatbush Jewish Center's monthly music series, "Church Avenue Sessions."

Klezmer is the traditional Jewish instrumental music that originated in the 17th century in Eastern Europe. It portrays many emotions, many states of mind, and many states of being. Itinerant Jewish musicians played this music on occasions ranging from weddings to holidays.

Master clarinetist Andy Statman studied with legendary klezmer clarinetist Dave Tarras. Statman played a major role in the rediscovery of klezmer music in the 1970s.

In 2012, the National Endowment for the Arts awarded him a National Heritage Fellowship, the highest recognition in the United States for excellence in traditional and folk art.

Violinist Jake Shulman-Ment began playing the violin when he was just three years old. His klezmer violin studies began at the age of twelve, under the tutelage of the noted Alicia Svigals. He is one of the leaders of a younger generation of klezmer musicians.

The session will start be on Wednesday, October 25th, at 7:30 p.m.

The price of admission to the session is $15 per adult and $7 per child (under age 16).
