TOY DRIVE FOR CHILDREN IN KENSINGTON'S FAMILY SHELTER

A toy drive is underway for the eighty-five children currently living at The Kensington, the family shelter in our neighborhood. The drive was launched early so that the gifts will be ready for the wrapping party that will most likely be held during the first week of December.

The gifts will be given out at a holiday party in mid-December and on Christmas day.

The coordinators of givemeshelterbk, a mailing list of Kensington and Windsor Terrace residents who want to assist in the success of the shelter, are partnering with Park Slope Parents on this project.

To make sure that the right number of toys are collected for each age group, an Amazon Wish List has been created (https://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/2FETQYFQTF3CF). On that page, the shelter's address is set as the default address; your purchases will be shipped directly to the shelter.

Or maybe you would rather shop locally to support our neighborhood merchants. Saturday, November 26th, would be the perfect day to do that, if you can. That day is Small Business Saturday. The Shop Small movement encourages shoppers to buy from stores in their own neighborhoods, which increases neighborhood stability.

If you buy an item locally (or anywhere other than Amazon), mark it "purchased" on the wish list so that the coordinators can keep track of what has already been purchased. Click "Buying this gift elsewhere?", situated next to each item, right below "Add to Cart."

Bring the unwrapped toy(s) to the shelter (385 McDonald Avenue, across the street from Foodtown) by Thursday, December 1st, if possible. Mark it "Holiday toy drive. Attention: Uniquia Parker."
