Garbage
collection is going to be reduced in neighborhoods that weren't heavily affected by Hurricane Sandy so that the Sanitation Department's resources can continue to focus 24 hours a day on the Rockaways, Coney Island, and Staten Island's South Shore. Areas that normally have three garbage pickups a week
may be cut to two. Areas that
normally have two pickups a week may be cut to one.
Curbside recycling won't be collected until
further notice, and residents won't be fined for leaving garbage
at the curb during this time.
