Trick-or-Streets 

Thursday, October 30th

Trick-or-Streets is a festive, city-wide Halloween and harvest-themed series of celebrations spread over a two-week period. This is its fourth season. 

 

The New York City Department of Transportation and its community partners will transform 137 Open Streets, pedestrian plazas, and other corridors for the festivities.

The date for Kensington's Trick-or-Streets celebration in Kensington Plaza is Thursday, October 30th, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. It will feature a pop-up from Street Lab.

New York City Councilmember Shahana Hanif's Office is sponsoring Kensington's event.

CHURCH AVENUE STREET FAIR (FREE ADMISSION)

 

Church Avenue Street Fair

Sunday, May 7th, noon to 6:00 p.m.

The annual Church Avenue Street Fair will be held outdoors on Sunday, May 7th, from noon to 6:00 p.m., rain or shine. It will run from Coney Island Avenue to Argyle Road.

 

The fair, designed for people of all ages, will feature

 

• music, 
• live performances from 
• Alden Moves Dance Theater,
• Flatbush Community Theater,
• Prospect Gymnastics,
• P.S. 249: The Caton School,
• Tiny Acorns Preschool,
• and more,
• a bounce house,
• a Lego station and street stencils from Street Lab,
• vendors,
• food,
• and more.

Halloween Celebration

Monday, October 31st, 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Celebrate Halloween on the Open Street on Beverley Road from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Expanding on New York City's Open Streets program, the street will be a car-free zone.

The afternoon's highlights will include treats, local snacks from To Be Thai and Carnival Fresh Market, and a City Council District 39 contest for best costume.

FREE BIKE REPAIR AT FINAL OPEN STREETS ON BEVERLEY ROAD

Free Bike Repair

Sunday, August 28th, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Get your bike looked at by experts from Mechanical Gardens Bike Co-op and use tools and parts to fix it up. Free and open to all, no sign-up needed. From their website:

"The Mechanical Gardens holds public programming for do-it-yourself repair education and creates community-based workshops that empower every bike rider to take charge of their mobility."

The block of Beverley Road between E. 2nd Street and Church Avenue is part of DOT's Open Streets program on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Grand Opening was on Saturday, June 25th, and the last Open Street will be on Sunday, August 28th.

Update, August 6th: Street Lab will conduct a Community Visioning Survey at tomorrow's event to find out what ideas people have for Beverley Road Open Streets.

Public Space Workshop

Share your vision for the future of the Department of Transportation's Open Streets program in Kensington in a community collage with Street Lab. 

Learn about the New York City Department of Transportation’s opportunities for creating more Open Streets as well as permanent public space in our neighborhood.

Free artmaking and music performances will take place that day, Sunday, August 7th:

• 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.: Street Lab Chalk Mural Drawing
• 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.: Public Space Workshop
• 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.: Bangladeshi Ladies’ Club Cutting and Stitching Workshop
• 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.: Bangladesh Institute of Performing Arts (BIPA) Children’s Chorus Performance

PLAY and Street Marker Activities with Street Lab

Sundays, July 17th through August 28th, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

From Street Lab:

"Come PLAY at a pop-up, portable, customizable obstacle course with street games and physical activities, and draw with STREET MARKER, an installation featuring chalk and custom chalk tools to draw, mark streets, and create expansive murals on Beverley Rd between Church Ave and E 2nd St, in Brooklyn. 

Thanks to our host in this location, District 39 Council Member Hanif’s Office. Made possible with funding from NYC Department of Transportation."
