MARIA'S HOURS AND MENU CHANGE

Maria's Pizzeria is back on a winter schedule: open Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Closed Tuesdays.

Owner Darren likes to experiment with different dishes to see which ones go over well with customers. For example, he began offering fish and chips this past Lent, and it was a success, so he kept it on the menu. Two current experiments are

• lamb or chicken gyros and gyro platters and
• rice and beans--sometimes with chicken and sometimes with pork--on Fridays.

Maria's Pizzeria will be closed on Sundays starting this weekend and continuing through the day before Labor Day (June 6th through September 5th). Sunday hours will resume on September 12th. A Night of Music

Cub Scout Pack 187 presents "A Night of Music" at Immaculate Heart of Mary School, 3002 Fort Hamilton Parkway (between E. 2nd and E. 3rd streets).

The Astronomical Kid and Non Stop to Cairo will perform in the gym. (The acts are subject to change.)

Also

• entertainment for children in the children's playspace in the cafeteria,
• a room for reading and quiet time, and
• a babysitting room for children under the age of five.

Hot dogs, Izze sparkling juices, and snacks will be sold.

Raffles and 50/50.

Cost: $10 in advance, $15 at the door.

Tickets are available online and at the IHM Rectory at 2805 Fort Hamilton Parkway, between E. 4th and E. 5th streets.

Proceeds from the event will support rebuilding the IHM School kitchen and the Cub and Boy Scouting program.

Maria's Pizzeria (located across the street from the school) is a local sponsor.

NEW MENU ITEMS AT MARIA'S PIZZERIA

To coincide with the start of the Lenten season, three shellfish entrees have been added to the menu at Maria's Pizzeria: linguine in clam sauce, shrimp scampi, and shrimp marinara. For shellfish lovers in the neighborhood, Darren will continue to offer them after the end of Lent.

Also new to the menu are slices of cake: chocolate mousse cake, carrot cake, New York cheesecake, cheesecake with a brownie crust, and Mississippi mud pie. A slice costs $3.50. Your KARMA blogger is enjoying a slice of chocolate mousse cake while typing.

Maria's Pizzeria runs specials on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

• "Monday Madness": an extra large cheese pie (pick-up or dine-in only; toppings extra) for $10.00, a saving of $4.00.
• "Turnover Tuesday": two extra large cheese pies, twelve garlic knots, and a garden salad for $28.00, a saving of $8.50.
• "Wacky Wednesday": all heroes (except shrimp parmigiana and veal cutlet with peppers and onions) for $5.00, a saving of $1.50 to $2.50.

Darren, the new owner of what was G&A Pizzeria, is adding several new items to the menu, such as whole wheat pizza with part-skim mozzarella, stuffed pizza, Chicago-style pizza, baby pan pizza, family size calzones, chicken cutlet salad, caesar salad with grilled Italian herb chicken, and chicken garlic knots. He also has hamburgers, cheeseburgers, pizza burgers, french fries, cheesy french fries, and more.

Jose and Ruth, the former owners of G&A Pizzeria, served our neighborhood for five years and will be missed. We're pleased that Paul is staying on as the chef.
