FREE MAMMOGRAMS AND FREE BREAST CANCER AWARENESS INFORMATION SESSION

Breast Cancer Information Session
Tuesday, August 22nd
11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Brooklyn Community Board 7 (CB 7), in partnership with Maimonides Medical Center, will host a breast cancer awareness information session this month.

The presentation will be given in English. Spanish translation will be available.

Dr. Joshua Feinberg, Director of Research, Breast Surgery, Breast Cancer, and Surgical Oncology at the Maimonides Breast Center, will lead the discussion about early detection and diagnosis, support for the patient during treatment and beyond, and how to support a loved one.

Information about making an appointment for a free mammogram will be shared with attendees. Even though a monthly breast self-exam is valuable, not all breast cancers can be detected through a self-exam--so also get a mammogram done annually. "Early detection is the best prevention" and offers the best chance of cure.

Giveaways and light refreshments will be available at the event.

The session will take place on Tuesday, August 22nd, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at CB 7's office.

Location
Community Board 7 Office

PATIENT SAFETY AT METHODIST AND MAIMONIDES HOSPITALS

New York - Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in Park Slope got a "C" grade and Maimonides Medical Center in Borough Park got a "D" in a survey that rates hospitals for patient safety in the categories of
  • Infections,
  • Problems with Surgery,
  • Safety Problems,
  • Practices to Prevent Errors, and
  • Doctors, Nurses & Hospital Staff.

Safety is defined as lack of harm, avoiding bad events, and making it less likely that mistakes happen.

The "Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade," a report that's updated twice a year, is an initiative of The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit, national watchdog organization that surveys about 3,000 hospitals nationwide.

The survey is "the only hospital rating focused exclusively on hospital safety. Its A, B, C, D or F letter grades are a quick way for consumers to choose the safest hospital to seek care."

You can search for reports about other hospitals in the United States by city/state, zip code, hospital name, or state at https://www.hospitalsafetygrade.org/

MAIMONIDES MEDICAL CENTER: PANDEMIC VISITATION POLICY AS OF DECEMBER 29, 2021

The patient visitation policy at Maimonides Medical Center in Borough Park, Brooklyn, has changed, effective Wednesday, December 29, 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Consistent with the New York State Department of Health’s recommendations, and in order to maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff, Maimonides Medical Center has updated the visitation policy.

For INPATIENT locations throughout the Medical Center (except for support persons in Labor and Delivery, Mother-Baby, and the Children’s Hospital), prior to entry, ALL visitors are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination status or proof of a negative COVID-19 test administered within 72 hours prior to their visit. Self-administered COVID-19 tests or positive antibody tests are not acceptable.

Visitation will also be limited to ONE visitor at bedside.

The vaccine status or proof of a negative test does NOT apply to those visitors or support persons accompanying patients in the areas listed above as well as the Emergency Department for Same Day Procedures, Physician Offices, or other Outpatient locations.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, all visitors are required to wear a mask over their mouth and nose at all times, and visitors must remain in the patient’s room the entire time of the visit.

The following general visitation process is in effect:

  • Up to two visitors, per patient, will be permitted at bedside during visiting hours.
  • Visiting will be limited to the following hours:
    • Sunday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.*
    • Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.*
    • *These hours may be subject to change.
  • One visitor will be permitted at bedside, with additional visitors allowed at the discretion and with approval of the patient’s medical team.
  • Emergency Department visitation is available 24 hours a day.
  • Visitors will be provided with, and must wear, appropriate PPE, when directed.
  • All visitors must consent to symptom and temperature checks, when appropriate.
  • All visitors will be issued a visitor pass. The pass must be displayed at all times and must be presented if asked for by staff.
